I am a professional photographer/photojournalist in Saratoga, California. Starting in photography around the age of 8, my dad taught me how to make a small pinhole camera and about the magic of the darkroom. At North Idaho College I studied photography and worked on the Sentinel Newspaper for 3 years as the Photo Editor during which time I won 9 awards from the Society of Professional Journalism. As photo editor of the Sentinel I managed a team of 6-12 photographers and taught basic and intermediate photography skills to most of them.

My works have been in galleries in Oregon, California, Washington, Florida, Idaho, Canada, and Switzerland.

I have been published in magazines such as: The Nature Conservancy, Inland Northwest Home and Lifestyle, CDA Magazine, Freefall Magazine, Inkwell Magazine, American Miniaturist, The Puck Review, and The Sun Magazine.

For 4 years I worked as a photojournalist for the Rathdrum Star Newspaper in North Idaho.

I also worked for the Parks and Recreation Department in Rathdrum, Idaho teaching a hands-on beginners photography class to the general public.

The subjects of my photos are widely varied and I find that there almost isn’t a subject that can’t be photographed well, if done so properly.

Now as a professional photographer, I still find that I learn more and more with each new photography endeavor. Whether photographing nature, people, sports, or still life, my focus is on the use of light and perspective to tell a story, create a mood and bring a subject to life in each photo. Light is a subject in and of itself, and using light with the proper perspective is a near obsession. I am constantly seeking out new avenues of creative control to push the limits of what can be done with light and shadow.

I can easily teach these concepts, technical shooting skills as well as my own personal tips/tricks and train you to take your photo concept and bend it into a great finished piece of photographic art. I take a hands on approach to photography and my lessons mainly consist of going outside and actually taking pictures as apposed to indoor lecture.

Lessons are custom tailored to each student based on the students requests. If you just want to learn the basics we can do that too.
