My name is Tony C. I teach trombone at San Francisco State University, Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College. I also a coach at the Humboldt University Brass Chamber Music Workshop each July.

I am in demand as one of the top freelance artists in the San Francisco Bay area. I frequently perform with many of the professional symphony orchestras in the area including The San Francisco Opera, Symphony Silicon Valley, The Western Opera Theater, The Oakland East Bay Symphony, The Marin Symphony, The Fresno Philharmonic, The Monterey Symphony, The Napa Valley Symphony, The California Symphony and Opera San Jose. I have also performed with the San Francisco Symphony. I hold the position of second trombone with the Modesto Symphony and during the summer months I am the principal trombonist of the Sunriver Music Festival in Sunriver, OR.

Having grown up in Atlanta, GA and gone to college in New York at the Manhattan School of Music, I have performed with many of the countries top arts organizations outside of California including the Metropolitan Opera and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (with whom I have recorded two Grammy winning discs).

Among the jazz, and pop artists that I have performed with are The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Moody Blues, Yes, Lou Rawls, Tony Bennet, Dianne Schurr, Franky Valley, Vicky Carr, Johnny Mathis, Chris Botti and Ray Charles.

I actively perform as a founding member of the Silicon Valley Brass Quintet with other major San Francisco bay area freelancers.

I currently live in Sonoma County with my family. In addition to my busy freelance performing schedule I am active as a private teacher and clinician as well as performing as a soloist.

Music History

Tutoring sessions would cover the major eras of music history including composers, their major works. Also covered will be world history as it pertains to the particular era of music. I hold a bachelors degree in music from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. I bring experience from both my schooling and performing. I have been a professional musician for 30 years.

Trombone

I offer private lessons in trombone. These lessons will guide the student as to the proper techniques of tone production, increasing range, articulation, phrasing, intonation, practice techniques and performance techniques.

I am a professional trombonist and this is how I make the majority of my living. My performing and practicing experience is of great help to my students as they progress as brass instrument musicians. I also teach at the college level at San Francisco State University, Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College. I have been teaching at the college level since 2001. I have been playing trombone for 40 years and this experience is also very helpful to my students.

Trumpet

I offer private lessons in trumpet. These lessons will guide the student as to the proper techniques of tone production, increasing range, articulation, phrasing, intonation, practice techniques and performance techniques.

I have more than 25 years of brass instrument teaching experience. While I am not a trumpet player I have had many successful trumpet students. I am a professional musician which is how I make the majority of my living. I use this experience in my teaching which greatly helps my students to understand the process of learning a brass instrument more completely. I have been playing trombone for 40 years and this allows for much experience to be taught.
