I am a doctoral student from Nova Southeastern University. I’ve recently completed the coursework portion for my degree requirement and I am now working on the dissertation portion of my PHD. I’ve decided to make use of my free time for tutoring since I have been tutoring on and off throughout my entire academic career.
, I have tutored college students in algebra
, and statistics
. As a psychology
major, I am familiar with the various cognitive learning techniques and routinely use them for tutoring, which I believe helps contribute to the student’s success. I also used the same cognitive techniques to help elementary kids in danger of failing math for the “America Counts Program,” which is a federal program to help kids in danger of failing a class. My students started with D’s and F’s and ended up with A’s and B’s after receiving my help. I am a gentle tutor with high expectations and I have no qualm in reminding my students when they do not meet my expectations. I give credit to my mom for this trait since she used the same techniques to push me through school and help me get to where I am today.
I have experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework and I am skilled at applying the latest proven teaching methods. As such, I believe in the Socratic Method, which views learning as a dynamic process whereby both student and teacher share information in the hope of achieving something greater, the generic roles of student and teacher are abolished in favor of a more dynamic and personal relationship. It has been proven to promote critical thinking skills rather than the traditional memorize-this-for-the-test style of thinking.
My major is not in English
, but I have strong writing
skills. I've published and have presented my works both nationally and internationally on social issues such as war and genocide, gang violence, family conflict dynamics, and more.
I hope this gives you a picture of my teaching styles, experience, and perspectives toward learning.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
