I am an alum of Duke University eager to help students reach their academic potential.

I have four years of experience tutoring: I was part of a math mentorship program for middle school students during my senior year of high school. During my freshman year of college, I tutored elementary school students in low-income neighborhoods through a program called Project CHILD. Since I finished my undergrad education, I have been tutoring high school students independently in algebra 2, pre-calculus and chemistry.

I always enjoyed my math and science classes because they featured the most objective learning. I think the key to understanding these subjects is to slow the pace, break down concepts, and do a myriad of practice problems that test every facet of what needs to be learned. I enjoy getting students to think more logically.

I am comfortable working with students of all ability levels, from those who are struggling to pass to students trying to make the jump from good to great.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I have tutored algebra 2 independently for the last year and have been recommended to other students on multiple occasions.

American History

I took AP US History in high school and received a 5 on the AP test. I was a history major in college and took two courses on American history.

Calculus

I took AP Calculus BC in high school and received a 5 on the AP test. I followed that by taking multivariable calculus in college.

Chemistry

I took AP Chemistry in high school and got a 5 on the AP exam. I also took general chemistry in college and earned an A+ in the class.

European History

I have had a real fascination with European history ever since I took AP European History in high school and earned a 5 on the AP exam. I went to Europe twice and took multiple guided tours of historical locations, prompting my desire to major in history at Duke.

Geometry

I excelled in geometry in high school, and am comfortable applying the principles of geometry to higher levels of math.

Precalculus

I started tutoring pre-calculus for the 2012 academic year and have had great results with my students thus far.

PSAT

I took the PSAT four times, starting in 8th grade, and I was a National Merit finalist after scoring a 231 my junior year. I am very familiar with the format and skills required for standardized testing.

SAT Math

I scored an 800 on the math section when I took the SAT. Math has always been my best subject and I know a lot of tricks to solve problems quickly and easily.

Spanish

I took five years of Spanish culminating in my junior year of high school when I scored a 5 on the AP Spanish exam.

Statistics

I took AP Statistics in high school and earned a 5 on the AP exam. I also took a statistical inference course in college and earned an A.

I am familiar with descriptive statistics, probability, inferential statistics, as well as sampling and experimentation. I also am comfortable with Bayesian statistics.

I have a working knowledge of Stata and can use the program to generate summary statistics, perform hypothesis tests, and construct confidence intervals.

By the square root property, the first step is to square root both sides, giving us:    -x^2 + 1 = 2   OR   -x^2 + 1 = - 2   Solving for x in the first equations gives us -x^2 = 1, so x^2 = - 1. This is impossible unless we are solving...

When you're solving a logarithmic equation, the first thing you want to do is get all of the terms with a log on one side and move the constant terms to the other side. Since that's already taken care of, now you want to combine the log terms into one logarithm. The sum of 2 logs is the log of...

Excellent tutor! — Math has always been a huge struggle of mine. I needed to take statistics over the summer so I decided to hire a tutor the second the course started. One of my friends recommended WyzAnt and the first tutor I came across was Sabreena. I messaged her asking just some general questions like rates, location, her tutoring experience, etc. Sabreena replied to my email promptly, answering each and every ...
