Teaching is my dream in life. It is what makes me feel fulfilled and happy. I would say that it all started when I was a Freshman (9th grade) at Santa Monica High School. I was not the greatest of students in middle school. I had potential but could not pay any attention, and when I did the material just didn't make any sense. I was unable to retain any information regarding math or science.

In the end of Freshman year, I was left with very few weeks left to go from a low "F" to a passing grade. There was only one solution; find a tutor. I went to tutoring after school with a substitute teacher for the district, but it still wasn't enough. He just went over the same information, the same way as all of my teachers. He also wasn't able to help me since there were so many other students that needed him. With time slipping away a family friend offered to help me one-on-one.

This family friend is an Engineer, so clearly he was a great candidate for tutoring me. His system was simple--start from scratch. Using flash cards meant for elementary math, an environment I was comfortable in, and some real-life examples, I was able to pass with 97%.

His system of using real-life examples is what I employ. I prefer to learn what my students' weak points, strong suits, and interests are. With this system, I am able to determine what concepts they are not comprehending fully. Isolating and eventually eradicating these them. I don't often have to use the flash-cards method, but will if necessary.

Since I began tutoring 1.5 years ago, I have seen my students go from near-failing grades to a 90% average. All of my former and current students know that if they need any help they can contact me via phone call, Skype, email, or text message. This will never change, and unless the Skype call is a lesson, there will never be a charge.

My standard rate is $40 per hour. However, payment options are negotiable to an extent(please message me for more details). Lessons are booked in two hour blocks, with a 24 hour cancellation policy. All cancelled lessons can be rescheduled.

Subjects offered: Elementary Math, Prealgebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Elementary Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Elementary English, and GED preparation(Math).

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

As a person with Dyslexia, it is very easy for me to find a conducive manner in which students that are Dyslexic can study/work. I use real-life examples and I even test the students to see how severe their Dyslexia is.

Recently, I have noticed that the teachers in my area don’t think highly of their students. I’ve heard such complaints as “Bobby won’t stop fidgeting! He isn’t focusing on his work! The other students are distracted because of his outrageous behavior!” At first glance, this may seem like the student is at fault for everything. However, that may not be entirely true, and in fact it may be that... read more

Great tutor with a lot of knowledge! — Ethan was a perfect tutor! He was very helpful to us in preparing my daughter for some upcoming tests. He was really over and beyond in his service and because of this she did well in her math class. He was available and able to schedule appointments with my schedule. I trusted him and my daughter felt comfortable with him and she learned a lot from him. I would highly recommend him. ...
