I am an avid surfer, writer, and photographer, and each of my passions is built on patience and dedication.

I bring the same patience, dedication and creative energy to tutoring as I do to my own creative endeavors. I also firmly believe that learning is a two-way street, and I get as much from working with my students as they do from me.

I have worked in a wide variety of school settings, from grade school to community college and university level, and have found something special about each environment. For example, working at the community college gave me the opportunity to tutor students from diverse cultural and age backgrounds in writing and general college success strategies, and to help facilitate teaching strategy sessions with my fellow tutors. I also worked as a Peer Mentor and Writing Coach at my college, UCSC, where I helped students write university level essays on a variety of subjects that were outside of my major. I used my knowledge of Spanish grammar structures to help Spanish- speaking students better understand English grammar, and I assisted students with time management and organization skills. I have also worked with students at the grade school level, both individually and in small groups in a multi-age classroom, where it was essential to tailor the way I worked with students to suit their individual learning needs and developmental levels.

One of my favorite things about tutoring is helping people to overcome learning blocks and build self-confidence in order to become successful students; let me help you unlock your inner potential and become a master student!

Naomi was a pleasure to work with. I was happy to walk her through using some of the filters and shortcuts in Adobe Lightroom, and she was patient when I needed to do some extra research while we were meeting together. I would have liked to give her more information & give her more tips & tricks, and welcome the chance to do so in the future. Thank you Naomi!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I have worked as an academic coach and transfer student mentor, and helped students ease their transition from community college to university level work. I was also a TA for an academic success workshop, for which I met with the instructor to plan class sessions and provide updates on student progress. I also managed students’ attendance and homework assignments with minimal supervision, and assisted in writing narrative evaluations.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently going to school for a multiple subject credential at San Jose State. I have worked for over a year in a mixed-grade elementary school, where I helped students from Kindergarten- 6th Grade in a variety of subjects.

Photography

I am a serious amateur photographer, with experience in both analog and digital photography. I love spending time developing film & photos in the darkroom, and taught my self to use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. I have experience shooting in low-light conditions in nightclubs and concerts. It all started when my grandmother gave me her old Pentax film camera; I took 5 semesters of photography classes, and have been hooked ever since!

Study Skills

I have worked as an academic coach and transfer student mentor, and helped students ease their transition from community college to university level work. A large part of my job included helping students with scheduling and planning, effective note-taking and writing strategies, and working on every step of the writing process.

I was a transfer student myself, and am well versed in a variety of study skills that enabled me to become a successful student.

Very thorough — I had a great experience with Jeremiah. I needed help mostly in integrating my iphoto with Lightroom. Some things took a while to figure out because he was learning as we were going too. We did eventually get there, just took longer than I hoped. 2 hours was the most I wanted to spend on the lesson so I didn't get quite as much information and tips about Lightroom as I wanted but I can't complain ...
