I tutor math, from algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and up to pre-calculus. I tutor high school Chemistry. I also tutor English skills including reading, writing, and proofreading papers.

I worked as an engineer and manager in Silicon Valley, including a couple of the giant companies and a couple of successful start-up companies. I returned to college about ten years ago and completed the postgraduate Teaching Credential program at Santa Clara University. I tutored at a private college (English, Math & Business) and later supervised the tutoring center. I taught math in local middle and high schools for several years. Today, I limit myself to tutoring individuals and small groups.

I have experience with Asperger's and ADHD, as well as ESL. Many of my students are special needs. I have experience as an Inclusion Aide, partnering with a special needs student for the entire school day to facilitate inclusion in mainstream classes.

My approach to tutoring is basically calm and supportive. I do not enjoy "drill sergeant" tutoring. I try to leave students feeling good about the tutoring experience and about the support they have received.

I can tutor in your home, my home, the public library or even (with permission from your teacher) at your school.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I was a credentialed single-subject (math) teacher in the public schools for several years. I was certified to teach all levels of math to youth and adults. I taught Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Remedial Algebra and Algebra 1 for ESL. I enjoy helping others learn math and I emphasize learning the ideas and purposes of the math as much as I do the numbers and graphs. I have tutored students in middle school, high school and college courses, and tutored in English and Math at a small private college.

Algebra 2

I earned a single-subject California teaching credential for Math and passed all of the subject matter tests for Algebra I, II, Trig, Geometry, Statistics, and Calculus. I taught several years in the public schools and also tutored all levels of math and English at a small private college.

Aspergers

I graduated from the secondary education program at Santa Clara University, which incorporated a significant amount of teaching around special populations. My own son had Aspergers and I worked with him extensively. I am currently tutoring math to a student on the autism spectrum. I have taught numerous students in the public schools with Aspergers or Autism Spectrum.

CBEST

I passed the CBEST in 2004 with scores in the 99th percentile. I recently tutored my own daughter while she studied for CBEST and she passed it easily. I tutor all of the subject material (general math, algebra, geometry, English, writing) that are components of the CBEST.

Geometry

I have held a lifelong love of math and have pursued quite a lot of math coursework, up to college calculus. I completed a single-subject (math) California teaching credential program at Santa Clara University, which authorized me to teach math to all grade levels. I passed the California CSET exams in all math subjects as part of my credentialing process.
