As a student at UCSB and throughout my Master of Science in Psychology program. I have specialized in editing papers for college and ESL students. I am a UCSB alumnus, have my Master's degree in psychology, and am currently in a Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology.
My expertise is in writing papers of all kinds: research, essays, meta-analyses, argumentative, critique, compare and contrast, critical thinking, cause and effect, review, and more. I have experience tutoring students whose first language is not English.
Throughout my years at UCSB I wrote in MLA format and during my graduate program I wrote in APA so I thoroughly understand both.
I can help develop outlines, edit rough drafts, assist in collecting research, ensure papers meet all formatting requirements (headers, footers, page numbers, etc.), as well as help develop thesis statements, introductions, bodies, conclusions, reference pages, appendices, tables/charts, and in short, make sure your paper flows, holds all of the informations it should, and is articulately written!
I also provide comments and notes when I make changes to assist in the learning process.
Feel free to contact me with any questions!
I have tutored ACT English before and understand the common types of questions asked. Likewise, I know the best ways to learn the information tested on. I would be happy to help you master the information you'll need to know to complete the ACT English with success!
As with the ACT English test, I have tutored for ACT Reading. I know the most effective ways to recognize the important information in response to the question asked. I would be happy to help you master the ACT Reading section.
I have a BA in Anthropology from UC, Santa Barbara and am great at communicating anthropological concepts, including those in cultural as well as psychical anthropology, and assisting in writing about Anthropological issues. I have taken a vast amount of Anthropology courses and know fantastic resources for gathering research. Likewise, I have a thorough understanding of human evolution and cultures.
As mentioned, I studied Anthropology at UC, Santa Barbara during which time I was required to take numerous archaeology courses. No objections! I loved archaeology.
I was also an intern in the UCSB Repository for Ethnographic and Archaeological Collections. As an intern, I participated in cataloguing collections and in archaeological digs, my favorite of which was on Santa Cruz Island digging for Chumash Native American artifacts with a doctoral student in the Archaeology Department.
English is one of my strongest areas of knowledge and skill. I have taken many college level English courses and always received As. I enjoy tutoring and assisting students in their English assignments.
As an Anthropology major at UCSB, I studied geography in depth and was able to learn a great deal since each place was attached to culture, ethnicity, religion, and customs rather to a disconnected memorization of city, region, or country names. My geographical knowledge is substantial and I know of some great online resources for learning places as well. Geography has many subsets and those involving Anthropology are my strongest while those involving weather would be less in my area of expertise.
Grammar is one of the subjects I revere because it has to ability to allow for greatly elevated and eloquent communication. Take for instance the example of "when I was walking a biker almost hit me in the park yesterday" and "when I was walking in the park yesterday a biker almost hit me." It is a subtle difference yet the correct grammar of the second sentence makes a world of difference to it's flow.
In contrast to many of my academic skills, my knowledge of literature comes mostly from my own free time, during which I have been working on reading the classics over the last 15 years. I have covered quite a few to say the least but there are so many I am still looking forward to read! I know many of them well so please feel free to ask if I can help with your specific literature assignment.
I have regularly proofread for many fellow students over my academic career as well having as proofread hundreds of my own papers. I continue to do so very often for my fiance who is in a graduate program and for my mother who is an author. Additionally, I am an avid reader so I am able to attend to both content as well as grammar and composition.
As you may have read, I have my Master of Science in Psychology. I am very knowledgeable in nearly all areas of psychology. This includes clinical (which I also work in), psychopharmacology, neuro/bio psychology, cognitive, effective, child development, aging psychology, psychopathology, history of psychology, as well most other areas.
Reading is my hobby but I understand that for many it is a chore. Luckily, I understand how to read in a way that is effective in order to meet a specific assignment's requirements with great success. I have many tricks that I have learned over the years to help with reading assignments that seem tedious or confusing.
I know how to effectively read passages and take away the important or inquired about information in a short amount of time. Having tutored for the SATs in the past and having taken many similar tests myself, I know some very helpful tricks. I look forward to helping you get a great SAT Reading score!
My qualifications for the SAT Writing section are mostly the same as for my writing skill and knowledge in general. However, the main difference is that I understand how to teach students write short, concise, and impressive essays in a short amount of time. I would be glad to help you develop this skill in preparation for the SAT Writing.
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate education I had to develop numerous skills to assist in long hours of studying very difficult material. I have taken study skills courses and have learned about other helpful academic tricks during my college and graduate years.
I use active learning, visualization, mnemonics, classroom test prep, situational cues, visual/spatial learning, time management/scheduling, writing stages, associations, rhymes, acronyms, image naming, keyword memorization, general test prep.
I love words! When I am reading I often write down new and interesting words I come across to incorporate into my vocabulary. As such, I have accumulated a plethora (one of my favorites) of great words and love helping students learn new words, often using some of the skills I mentioned under "study skills."
As mentioned, I am a born writer, not a mathematician. I have always loved to write and have couple this enjoyment with many years of honing my skill by writing countless academic papers at UC, Santa Barbara and during my Master's program. I would love to help with your papers!
