I am from the Democratic Republic of Congo and I have been in the United States since 2007. I am married and have six children. In the DRC, I was a lawyer. Since the DRC is a French speaking country, I took all my classes in French. In Congo, and in the US, where I have become a new resident, I use French with proficiency in my daily communication (when I am home with my family, for example).
Besides French, I speak Swahili, Lingala, Tetela (Congolese dialects), and English. I can read and understand Latin since I studied it in high school. I would be very delighted to learn Spanish as well.
I have been a French tutor at Santa Rosa Junior College since 2010 while taking paralegal classes there as a full time student. I expect to graduate from this program in May 2013.
My decision to become a lawyer has never stopped my love for teaching. In Congo, I used alternative methods of teaching in the community: I was passionate about sharing the excitement of a good book in front of classmates; I was involved in many sociocultural groups such as boy scouts, classical choruses, and alumni associations where I played a preponderant role similar to that of a teacher. In addition, I taught law classes part time to adult students.
I am now excited about being part of the Alliance Française of Santa Rosa family as a teacher. I am also proud to be part of the French American Charter School as a volunteer.
