I used to be a math tutor for SRJC. I know how difficult it can be to learn a subject such as mathematics. I know the material well, so I can zip through the material if that's how the student learns, or I can go through a problem step-by-step until she or he has learned how to do it. Part of the problem is identifying the problem, the next step is solving it, and then the final step is remembering how to solve the problem. Keeping it all organized in the head (writing helps) and mental stamina (breaks and smaller goals help) are other potential problems. I sometimes invent some easier problems of my own that are steps to solving a more complex problem if I and the student feel that the student needs it.
I have experience tutoring algebra, intermediate algebra, precalculus, and trigonometry. I have tutored college level students, as well as freshman high school RSP. I've got an AA in liberal arts and sciences from SRJC and a BA in film and visual culture from UC Riverside, magna cum laude, finishing in the top 4% of the graduating class with high honors.
You should hire me because I use a friendly approach to learning, which includes patience, relating to the student to understand barriers, and overall effective tutoring.
