For 18 years I taught Writing and History/Social Studies (11th, 12th and 8th grade) at one of the top schools in the country--a selective, progressive, independent day school in Chicago. The school houses grades JK-12, so I have worked with and advised students of all ages. Over the years, I learned that my best tools are a sense of humor and lots of patience. In addition to developing curriculum and teaching in the classroom full-time, I taught and worked one-on-one with students of all abilities to help them with all of their subjects and an approach to make keeping up with schoolwork easier. Students love my teaching because we always have fun, yet they still learn a lot and are required to work hard. Recently, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue screen writing. While I am working on my scripts, I am looking for a few students to tutor.
I can help with time management, homework help in all subjects (except foreign language), writing, proofreading, grammar, organization, study skills, reading comprehension, research, strategies for staying focused on work, College Essay Coaching, presentations, public speaking, and large projects. I am especially effective helping kids with Executive Functioning and Time Management difficulties, ADD/ADHD students and students with learning disabilities.
I received my BA from Colorado College and my Masters from Harvard University. I have lectured to prospective teachers in graduate schools of education, published articles in Educational journals, and presented at several educational conferences.
But the best thing I have to offer is my expertise in making learning a joyful, rewarding experience and helping kids aim high, reach their best and feel good about themselves.
