I received a bachelor of arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a major in Education and a minor in theater arts. I began my career teaching elementary school in Chicago. I also worked abroad, teaching English as a foreign language to Korean students in Seoul, South Korea. I relocated to Los Angeles in 2000 and earned a professional California state credential to teach multiple subjects to children in kindergarten through grade 8. I am also certified to teach English to students in grades kindergarten through grade 12 and to adults. I have over 10 years of experience educating elementary and secondary school students. I have worked for unified school districts in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and Compton. I have taught large and small groups in public schools and private institutions. I have also provided one on one instruction and tutoring to both children and adults. As a young student, I earned straight A's, and in college I was an honor student, graduating with a 4.9/5.0 grade point average. I have superb organizational and study skills that I encourage my students to employ. I love teaching students of all ages and am extremely patient and supportive. English and math are my strongest subjects and I love teaching English as a second language!

Algebra 1

I began to love mathematics in high school because I had an excellent teacher. Many students, adults and children alike, have a fear of math. I enjoy helping students overcome their math anxiety.

Grammar

Both my parents were English teachers, so I acquired excellent grammatical, spelling, and writing skills.

Prealgebra

I love teaching mathematics! I have taught math for 8 years. For 2 of those 8 years, I taught pre algebra to sixth grade students.

Writing

I have experience teaching writing to students in grades kindergarten through twelve. I have taught writing to adults, as well. My students have included native speakers and those learning English as a second or foreign language.

English

I have a professional CA teaching credential in English. I have taught English language development and English language arts.

ESL/ESOL

I have a CLAD credential which enables me to teach ESL to students in grades k-12 and adults. I also taught EFL in Seoul, South Korea.

Proofreading

I possess strong grammatical, spelling, and writing skills. Along with my attention to detail, these abilities make me a thorough and adept proofreader.

ACT English

I possess a CA teaching credential that enables me to instruct English to students in grades k-12 and adults.

Elementary Math

I am well versed in the CA state math standards. I have taught a standards based curriculum to students in kindergarten through grade 8. I have tutored high school students and adults in algebra.

Elementary Science

I have CA multiple subject credential, which includes science. I have taught science to students in grades kindergarten, second, fourth, & sixth.

Elementary (K-6th)

I possess a professional multiple subject CA teaching credential. I am certified to teach all subjects to students in kindergarten through grade 8.

Phonics

My CA multiple subject credential enables me to teach phonics, phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and reading comprehension.

Study Skills

Study skills can be learned at any age! Great study skills include organization, creating and following a plan, and making a commitment to a quiet time and space in which to study. I acquired terrific study skills in middle school, and they have helped me be successful throughout my academic career.

Theatre

I was awarded a full scholorship to study theatre arts. I grew up performing in plays and musicals. As a teacher, I have enjoyed directing and producing student productions.

Yoga

I have practiced yoga with children and adults. While teaching elementary and middle school, I incorporated yoga, meditation, and mindfulness into the academic curriculum. I completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training course.

Public Speaking

My undergraduate minor was theatre arts. I grew up performing in plays and musicals. As a teacher, I have enjoyed directing and producing student productions. I will assist you in improving your public speaking skills. We will practice pronunciation, annunciation, and projection.

CBEST

I will assist a future teacher in passing the CA Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). I completed all three sections (math, reading, and writing) in one sitting and passed the exam the first time I took it. It is a standardized test administered to individuals who want to teach at public schools and gain a credential.

Social Studies

I am certified to teach multiple subjects, including social studies, to students in grades kindergarten through 8. I have taught history, geography, and current affairs to children in grades kindergarten, second, and fourth.

Fitness

I have taught fitness classes to both children and adults. These classes included cardio, strength, stretch, cycling, and yoga. I have over ten years of experience working in the fitness industry as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. I also taught physical education to elementary students.
