I was an Algebra I teacher in the LA Unified School district, but the district does not practice what it preaches. Good learning comes from good, appropriate relationship building but you can't build a deep relationship with you students if you have 140 students per semester to deal with. Tutoring is the answer. I greatly prefer it to teaching.
Like most people who are good with computers today, I started learning about computers at a very young age, 11. I am 43 now, and my love affair with computers and technology has never ended. My first computer was incredibly under-powered by today's standards. It could barely put color of any kind on the screen. Now, I own a Windows 7 touchscreen that is able to reach out to the whole world. I can program in about 6 different computer languages, and did computer programming for Ticket Master and Card Service International, a credit card processing company which was bought out by First Data Corp. That said, I am also a trained educator. So I won't jump right into using words that you cannot understand, like Gigabyte, Object Oriented programming, hash tables, and encrypted header files. However, this field has a lot of vocabulary and we will get to it as soon as you are ready. I am a very patient, kind and downright funny person. So let me be your computer tutor and you will not regret it.
I tutor elementary math starting with small Lego bricks, which I bring myself. All of math basically grows out of counting. We seek to answer, for sure, and exactly, the questions of how much, or where, or when? Almost every mathematics break down comes from a lack of strength in a more fundamental skill. I make sure to start correctly and to start slowly, and then move quickly if the child is ready. I am incredibly patient and understanding.
I have always loved science and technology, mostly because I have always been good at it. Nowadays one can find all kinds of safe and exciting experiments to try on YouTube, or in bookstores and I am good friends with science's two best friends: math, and electronics. I was a math teacher with L.A. Unified School District and I have an electronics degree from ITT Technical Institute. Another of science's good friends in computer software, where I am also well versed.
Ah, the English language, if you live in an English speaking country, then there is no difference between good thinking, good reading, good speaking and good writing. Your teachers and the world will judge you by the quality of your writing. Your power to understand the world will largely depend on your ability to read great books and to understand what you have read. Please allow me to help you to perfect your powers of expression, and understanding. Hire me as an English tutor for you or your child.
My first computer was a model called the TI-99 4A. it had 16 kilobytes of random access memory or RAM. The computer that I am typing this on laptop computer that has 3 megabytes, roughly 3 millions bytes of RAM, and it is connected to a world wide network of billions of computers. Computer and electronics technology has proven to be one of the most useful, and important things ever invented. Computers, in their varies forms, will soon be embedded into almost everything. Anyone with out an understanding of how computers work will be lost in a magical world of black box technology and probably will not be able to hold a job because a computer will be doing their job.
I got a huge A in Geometry when I was a sophomore back in High School. I love this subject. I think I missed maybe 2 points out all tests, over the whole year. Geometry is very logical, very consistent, and very beautiful. We learn how to classify shapes, angles, and lines. And we learn to find the measure of far distant parts of one figure, based only on a few scraps of information from another part of the figure. The rules keep us safe to do this, as long as they are memorized and followed properly. Hire me, I can help you or your child.
Java is amazing. It is based on the standard language C++, and is rapidly becoming the base for many other languages and technologies in it's own turn. It is the bases for Android, the cell phone and tablet language, and it is the bases of processing, and many web page games. Hire me and I will take you through an amazing journey learning an amazing technology. I have basic electronics and computer knowledge as well. So, I can tell you not only what the rules of Java are but why the rules exist. Here's a hint, it is because of the chips that the computers run on.
I took symbolic logic in College and scored an A. I am also an embedded systems programmer, so I work with logic gates and strict patterns of reasoning all of the time. If you have no one else, I am sure that I could help students studying logic.
Excel is really one of the most amazing pieces of software ever written. It lays raw almost all of the power of a modern computer without making the user need to learn computer programming. Each cell is symbolic of a piece of memory in your computer. Each can hold text, numbers, or formulas, and once they are filled out, they can be sorted, and filtered, imported and exported in really amazing ways. I can show you how.
I have been working with computers since I was 11. I know all about how to setup and install Windows or even to dual boot it with Linux, how to install and manage anti-virus software, how to connect to wi-fi or wired networks, and how to install printers. I know how to install and remove software, and how to manage firewalls, backup files, and deal with virus infection. I can program in about 6 languages. I am A+ computer repair certified.
Prealgebra can be fun and easy. As the name implies it is a critical subject to learn if you would like to prepare to learn Algebra I and II. Did you know that California State Universities requires a passing grade in Algebra II for entrance? Did you also know that passing Algebra I greatly increases you child's chances of getting a full diploma? Please let me open the door to higher education for your child. The world is so much more beautiful when you can see more of it, understand more of it, and bend it to your will, as an engineer, scientist, or architect.
If you are planning to go to college then the SAT is probably the most important test you will take in your life. Almost every college looks at your SAT scores to determine whether or not they will let you into their college. Direct test preparation has been proven to improve scores. Make sure that you brush up on your subject matter but also get good test taking strategy tips. Here is one for free: "Don't sharpen your pencil just before the test. A pencil that is a little bit dull but still usable with bring more lead surface in contact with the paper, and thus you will be able to completely paint the circle in less time." I have many more tips to offer. Please request a lesson.
I have a bachelor's degree in theater from CSUN. I graduated with honors back in 1992, so long ago. I love Shakespeare, musicals, drama and comedy. If you want to get over stage fright, learn how get involved in the world of the play and forget about what the audience thinks. At CSUN I was involved in an intense program called Ensemble Theater. In this one year program a group of 14 student actors did pretty much everything to produce two professional grade theatrical productions. In our case it was The Matchmaker, by Thornton Wilder, and The Winter's Tale, by William Shakespeare. I play the second male lead in The Winter's Tale. I also sewed the curtains, helped to build the sets, and helped to hang the lights.
I love the English language especially Shakespeare. I always got As in language classes and I have two college degrees. I can be really helpful in building English vocabulary, and with helping to proof, and perfect college research papers, or any written project. I will also soon have an article published in MAKE magazine.
