Over the past decade, I have developed a broad base of expertise, from multiple feature films and countless short films, to music videos, national commercials, branded work with high profile clients such as Jay-Z, to conceiving and executing portions of a ground-breaking Opera with the New York Philharmonic. I have intimate working understanding of all capture formats and workflows, from 35mm to DSLRs to the latest digital capture. It is with passion and ongoing study of light that I have shaped faces such as Tina Fey, JayZ, Andie MacDowell, Julianna Margulies, Dita Von Teese, Cherie Blair and numerous others for clients such as Vanity Fair, GQ, Dior, L'Oreal, Mercedes, Chopard jewelry, and Nautica. I was chosen as one of only four cinematographers in the United States to collaborate at the 2008 Sundance Director's Lab, and have photographed four films that have been selected for the Sundance Film Festival. My cinematography has screened at dozens of other landmark festivals, including Berlin, SxSW, Toronto, New York and has been distributed by Lionsgate. A web series I recently shot was nominated for an Emmy award, and I continue to create branded and commercial work, having also spent considerable time tutoring students privately and in small workshops.
I am extremely competent in not only understanding key photographic, lighting and image processing concepts, but the underlying logic behind them in order to convey these techniques in a fundamental way that makes sense to the pupil, rather than memorization or "just because." Even more important is the craft and imagination of conveying story in this wonderfully unique medium.
