Hi there! My name's Michael. Thank you so much for considering me as you search for a tutor.
Currently, I am an ESL teacher (since June 2009) with Los Angeles High School Community Adult School, through the LAUSD school system. I hold a California Teaching credential in English as a Second Language, and Secondary Basic skills such as English, social studies, history, theater.
I have also privately tutored for the last 6 years in English accent reduction and general English issues such as grammar, writing and reading. I have also coached and tutored actors preparing for auditions or film work.
Finally, I am a participant in the Screen Actors Guild BookPals program, a volunteer reading program in elementary schools where we pick a school and read to elementary school kids each week. I also participated in PencilPals, where we write letters to a selected student which is hosted by Screen Actors Guild and monitored by the participating school and teacher. These are wonderful programs!
My strengths are simply that I love people! All ages! And I try to create a positive atmosphere where learning is enjoyable, diverse and consistent! My classes are always well attended and test scores are good!
When I work individually, I work carefully to determine with the student how best he/she learns and create an atmosphere of trust with my students. They absolutely KNOW I support their growth and success. I like to challenge my students in a way that is flexible, and fun. I remember the teachers I loved the most in school always knew their material, but were flexible and had great senses of humor. They inspired me to achieve more than I had done before!
I try and follow that model.
Thank you so much again for considering me! I look forward to meeting with you and helping you and/or your child enjoy learning and achieve your goals.
Michael
