I would love to tutor you in a variety of subject areas including science, math, English, history, beginning to advanced computer skills, computer programming (PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, jQuery, Javascript), Adobe Photoshop, Wordpress, and sports and recreation!
I graduated in August 2008 with a bachelor's degree and a 3.93 GPA in Integrated Life Sciences (Pre-Medical) from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. I was accepted into medical school but instead decided to pursue a career as a high school science teacher.
I enrolled at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio in August 2009. I completed 24 graduate credit hours and 11 undergraduate credit hours with a 4.0 GPA by June 2010. In addition, I completed all of the requirements to receive a license to teach high school science (biology, chemistry, physics, geology, etc) in Ohio. I received a teaching license from the State of Ohio in June 2010. While attending graduate school, I tutored college students (ranging from 19 years old to 50 years old; males and females) in college level chemistry, biology, biochemistry, math, and government. From January 2010 to June 2010, I student taught at a middle school, Our Lady of Peace School in Canton, Ohio and at a high school, Jackson High School, in Massillon, Ohio.
As a tutor, I constantly focus on improving my instructional methods. My goal is to assist students in discovering their potential and to provide them with the tools to reach that potential in a structured environment. Through constant reflection, assessment, and professional development, I modify instructional methods using various effective teaching and learning theories and strategies.
I have taken numerous standardized tests and passed all of them. The tests that I have taken and passed include ACT, SAT, Proficiency Tests, GRE, MCAT, Praxis II content and Praxis II PLT tests.
My overarching goal is to help whoever I am tutoring or teaching gain confidence in his or her academic abilities. I want individuals to understand and be able to recall course content.
I am easy going yet challenging, patient, very open and accepting, energetic, and offer constructive criticism in a respectful way.
I was a New Media Intern at the Office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa where I helped manage the Mayor's Facebook page and developed a Facebook application to improve transparency and communication between citizens and their government.
More than 2 years ago I found my passion! My brother and I taught ourselves how to code and haven't looked back since! We are currently developing a website for the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) as well as currently developing our own web applications (our favorite part!). I am a back-end web developer, code in PHP and work with MySQL databases (although I am well versed in HTML, CSS, jQuery, Javascript and Photoshop CS6).
I'm always pushing myself to get a wider view and be better than I was the day before!
