For the last 10 years as a classroom teacher I've taught my students to become intelligent, tolerant, empathic, well-rounded citizens in a safe, fun and meaningful environment. I use humor, stories, and examples the students can relate to so they understand what they "don't get." The part of my classroom teaching I really enjoy is the one-on-one experience I can provide in a small group setting or when I tutor an individual. I'd love to help you or your child love learning as much as I do when they see they can attain their goal, mostly on their own, with my guidance. When tutoring in a home setting, my approach is very similar. However, since the student is more comfortable, has less distractions and has my full attention, learning takes place on a much faster pace. This is a good thing creating happiness for everyone involved!

Grammar

Grammar is speaking and writing using the correct part of speech, correct verb tense, past, present or future, and additional words to complete a thought to express meaning. Reading

Reading, writing and speaking are all essential to learning the English language properly. I teach using both phonics to read the words and whole language for comprehension. This includes reading stories for meaning that I believe are crucial to teaching Reading. My multiple subject teaching credential also allows me to teach English as a separate subject with a supplemental authorization.

Writing

Writing the English language properly is one of the hardest subjects to learn. However, writing and speaking well are ways most people use to perceive someone else as being an educated person. I have a supplemental certification to teach English as a separate subject in addition to my multiple subject credential. I have been a classroom teacher for 10 years.

SAT Reading

SAT Reading includes many obscure words many people do not normally use. Taking this test required solid reading comprehension as well as excellent vocabulary. However, test taking strategies will be your best course of action to pass this test with high scores. In my many years of college and in my 10 years of teaching, I have become a well rounded person, having knowledge in many areas to pass to an eager student.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently hold a Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This credential includes a Supplementary Authorization in English. Additional certificates are held for CLAD, Crosscultural, Language & Academic Development Emphasis and ELD/SDAIE for instruction for English Language Development. I have ten years of classroom experience teaching multiple subjects.

ESL/ESOL

My current CA Multiple Subject Professional Clear Teaching Credential includes a Supplementary Authorization in English, CLAD-Crosscultural, Language & Academic Development Emphasis and ELD/SDAIE specific instruction for English Language Development. I have ten years of classroom experience teaching multiple subjects using "Avenue's" and "Into English" English Language curriculum.
