Having recently retired, after twenty five years of teaching elementary school, I have finally discovered what I miss most about teaching, and it is not the chaos and lack of time to reach ALL students in a classroom setting, it is the actual science of teaching. The challenge to teach struggling students or above average students has been a joy the last 25 years. My expertise is in the area of language arts and I am SADAI certified.
For twenty years I taught in Santa Rosa, California, in a school where the percentage of the student population below the poverty level was 80%. I wrote numerous grants for my school district, one which led to outdoor growing lab/gardens at all four school sites.(I received second place in Ca. for "Agriculture in the classroom.") I would like to emphasize that my area of expertise is in language arts, k-6. I look forward to using my teaching experience with students struggling in a environment more conducive to retaining information.
