I have recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA as a returning student from CUNY BA Interdisciplinary and Unique Studies in New York. In addition to my bachelor degree (double major), I have extensive hands-on experience in working with children in different settings such as schools, day care centers, and domestic violence shelters. I have worked with gifted children as well as special needs children and teens combining academic education with arts. Currently, I am a tutor for a learning center and I teach literacy, math, arts and movement for a day care.
I believe I am an effective tutor because of the ability to combine real life experience with academic resources as well as to apply strategies, building on the strengths of the students to foster academic and emotional growth. Learning should never feel like a chore or a job but more like a passion.
I strive to be a role model and leader. My experience in various areas such as arts, education, social sciences, lab research, and athletics helped me become a well-rounded individual and teacher. Communication and organizational skills are essential in order to better maintain a conducive environment to learning and development. I can easily adapt my methods to ensure that every child understands and retains the information provided as well as feels nurtured and motivated. More so, I have an ongoing commitment to learning about pedagogical research and trends, new theories and technologies. A teacher should never stop being a student.
