Hi, my name is Sarah and I would love to help!
I am currently studying biochemistry at Santa Clara University. I love science as well as reading and writing and excelled at math throughout high school. I am a certified EMT and went through 120 hours of required training to attain that certification.
When it comes to tutoring I have endless patience and a knack for making complicated subjects seem easy. I have been working as a peer tutor since I was a freshman in high school, first helping at an after school study program at a local middle school, then tutoring fellow high school students in math and French. As part of a summer-long nanny job I worked with a boy with learning disabilities on his math and reading comprehension.
In addition to direct tutoring jobs, I have also been a full-time nanny, a house-sitter, a babysitter, and I volunteered weekly at a therapeutic riding center for people with physical and mental disabilities. I have a lot of experience working with a variety of students, of all ages and learning levels.
When I am working with students I always first determine how much they are understanding on their own and then determine where the gaps are and where improvement is needed. When we are working on a subject, my method is to not simply teach the material, but to teach the student how to arrive at that understanding on their own in the future. This allows them to continue to learn independently of my help. I am hands on with the material and favor practicing the work multiple times to let it sink in, however depending on the subject, my methods will vary.
Because of limited transportation, I can only tutor at the Santa Clara University library but if that works out for you, I have a very flexible schedule and am willing to rearrange it around your needs.
I hope to hear from you soon and I look forward to working with you!
