I believe students should be confident in their math skills. By getting good grades in school, their options in life (i.e., jobs, career paths) are kept open. I gauge where the student is at in knowing the concepts by having him work out the problems. Every problem has two parts: the first is recognizing what kind of problem it is (i.e., quadratic equation) and the second is the mechanics of working it out (i.e., arithmetic skills). I have been tutoring since I was in high school myself, back in 1979. I keep it simple and fun! I have given students confidence in their math skills which has transferred into overall confidence in themselves. We both roll up our sleeves and do the problems together. I have a BA in Mathematics from Cal State Fullerton.
