I would describe myself as an impacting trainer with a very global background.
Some of the things that stand out as you are looking for a tutor in someone such as myself: fluent in Mandarin Chinese, years of training and tutoring experience, international business experience and in depth understanding of office based computers and networking.
I have over 6 years experience in the educational training industry during my time in China with a focus on both K-12 English training and Corporate training. I am well equipped when it comes to teaching any age group, especially if they are preparing for study abroad, want to delve further into their English language studies to secure a position in the marketplace, or need preparation for negotiation and business talks. My students ranged from 2 years of age to the CEOs of large Chinese and American Corporations in China.
Additionally, I played an active role in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, as an employee to China Mobile Group, ranked 77th on the Fortune Global list. I was the Olympic Project Communications Manager in charge of a multitude of tasks: liaison to the International Olympic Committee, the attending media, and Olympic guests; coordinator of Language training programs for the CMCC Olympic Volunteer force; assistant in the hospitality program; as well as active participant in the daily operation of the Olympic Games support force. As liaison to the Olympic committee, I was responsible for creating interactive bilingual PowerPoint presentations on a bi-weekly basis, I can show you the secrets of PowerPoint to really wow your audiences!
After finishing my contract with China Mobile, I was hired by Global Discoveries, Inc. based in Orange County, where I was the operations manager for the international trade company. I was responsible for logistics, overseas shipping, customs, importation, sales, as well as managing our sales force. I utilized my extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office to create sales forms and customer databases using Excel. I also was in constant contact with our Chinese factories to coordinate production. If you need to improve your computer and office skills, as well as increase your import and export knowledge, I am the tutor for you.
When training and teaching, I rely heavily on repetition, review, and action. It is very important when learning something new, that you continually review and build upon your existing knowledge base, while putting it to use. How many adults still even remember the degree of the angle of an octagon? They see them every day while driving, but there is no review, and especially no direct application. Every student learns better when they see that what they are learning is actually useful, and can be applied. This is extremely important for any subject. Finally, it is extremely important that my tutoring session is high impact, exciting, and never boring. As a tutor, I am called to challenge the student to go beyond what they are currently learning, and add to that, to make them better. If there is no interest, and no creativity, then I'm not doing my job.
I am more than happy to answer further questions, and I look forward to sharing my global experience with you!
I hold a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from the Beijing Language and Culture University. I speak, read, and write fluent Mandarin Chinese, and I have spent more than 8 years living and working in China. I'm sorry, I am unable to speak Cantonese, though perhaps someday...
I have lived in the following areas: South West (Yunnan Province), North East (Liaoning Province), as well as the majority of my time being spent in Beijing, China.
During the Olympic Games held in 2008, I worked for China Mobile Group, Beijing, and was the first westerner hired by the company. They put all applicants though a barrage of tests, and I was the final pick because of my fluency in both Chinese and English, as well as my ability to work in an all Mandarin speaking environment.
While in China, I loved the culture, the history, as well as traveling, but most of all I loved speaking with Chinese nationals from all walks of life.
Also while in China I worked for various training companies, and held English training classes for children as young as 2 years of age and up. Thus, I am an exceptional teacher of ESL students, but I am also very able to teach Chinese to westerners as well.
I look forward to hearing from you, and I look forward to helping with your Mandarin!
