Hello, my name is Gyabi, or Gabrielle. I am currently a student at Foothill Community College; I am studying International Business and Dance. I plan to transfer to UCLA or UC Irvine. I graduated from Aragon High and I was part of the Japanese program for 4 years– I was in the Honors/Advanced Placement class (Level 7-8) my senior year– and the orchestra, dance team, plus many other clubs. I volunteered both on and off campus from fundraisers to dance shows to music recitals and soup kitchens. I've tutored children in Violin, English, Math, and several other subjects; I've taught dance to children from ages 6 to 16, also I've helped teach Bible Study/CCD classes. I have my black belt in Taekwondo, so I know how to keep the learning environment controlled, but still fun. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, but I don't do it in the average "turn to page 394" style, I like to switch it up by finding what interests the student first and apply that to tutoring session and to also help the student get used to studying/practicing in a way that they like!
I started taking TaeKwonDo at the age of 4. I competed a few times in Elementary School and placed each time. At the age of 12, I received my black belt at Millbrae TaeKwonDo Black Belt School; I later on went to practice at Kik's TaeKwonDo where I was both a student and teacher's assistant. Early this year, I was an instructor at Core TaeKwonDo for students from ages 3 to 40, but I had to leave due to a family emergency.
I started learning Violin at the age of 8 and I currently still study and play. I not only played at school but also received tutoring at Happy Mozart Music School for four years. I also played Violin for my church's choir. I tutored a ten-year-old child on the Violin and by the time of his first playing test, he was placed in the top section. I taught him the notes/note values and what they sounded like also how to tune his own instrument before we even started playing, so by the time he did start playing he was able to play through Suzuki book one within a month – he also kept a practice log which his mother filled out and he would be required to play a full song from the Suzuki book that we practiced every two weeks.
