My tutoring guarantees positive results! Every student whom I've tutored has significantly increased in their grades and even motivation in school! My style is unique, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and extremely patient! I have over thousands of hours in teaching and tutoring experience!
Throughout my academic career, I have instructed many students in both the classroom and in one-on-one private tutoring sessions due to my passion for helping others. I have been both a teaching assistant for courses at Hopkins, a volunteer tutor for inner city students, and a private tutor. When searching for opportunities to enrich my gap years before medical school, continuing my passion for teaching is a top priority. From personal experience in pursuing a Biology degree from Johns Hopkins and even studying for the MCAT, I have gained many study strategies that I hope to share with students to help them in their preparation for their subjects.
In regards to classroom teaching, I was a teaching assistant for two courses at Johns Hopkins University: Cellular Biology Lab and Electron Microscopy Lab. With roughly 30 undergraduate students per course, I learned how to effectively manage my time and convey difficult biological concepts into manageable terms for students to understand. At the beginning of each lab, I discussed the biological concepts that were covered by the lab material and provided a brief overview of the procedures. Following the introduction, I proctored a 15-minute lab quiz and proceeded onto the lab itself. Throughout the lab, I taught, assisted, and helped verify the work of my students. My enthusiasm for teaching and experience with the material transforms the challenge of each lab into one that is manageable and fun. Students have often complimented me for my excellence in teaching through course evaluations. The experience has been rewarding as I learned how much I enjoy teaching, helping my peers, and have refined my teaching methods to be effective and influential.
In regards to one-on-one tutoring, at Hopkins, I partnered with inter-city middle school children struggling in school through an outreach program called Pen Lucy. This partnership program was designed to improve math and English skills and provide peer-to-peer advice. As a tutor, I helped my mentee Grace, a 6th grader at the time, overcome her below average 4th grade level math skills of multiplication and reach a 6th grade math level of basic functional equations. As her mentor, I provided advice for different issues she faced at school, with friends, and at home. At the end, Grace remarked that I had been an important example in her life and that my patience and influence in helping her succeed changed her goals and expectations for her own future.
In addition to this, I have spent the last year private tutoring 12 high school students in Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics and SAT materials. I have also successfully private tutored 3 college graduates, preparing for the MCAT and higher level post-bac. programs. I have much experience teaching students on both the one-on-one and group level and have taught students varying in subjects. I believe that my experiences have equipped me to be a versatile and competitive candidate as a tutor.
Alongside previous teaching experiences, I have much experience with leadership, public speaking, and demonstrate a unique enthusiasm for learning.
Furthermore, I have a passion for the arts and sciences which is reflected in my degrees and success from Johns Hopkins. As a student, I discovered the value of learning and grew an enthusiasm for whatever subject I was studying. As a result, my passion for science and learning aids my teaching in the classroom as I can excite my students for the material. Therefore, I believe that my interpersonal, leadership, public speaking abilities, and enthusiasm equip me with the skills I need to qualify for and be a successful instructor.
In regards to relevant classes, I have taken biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, calculus, and many other biology courses like Reproductive Physiology at Hopkins. Additionally, I took geometry back in high school.
Finally, my SAT scores were Math: 680, Verbal: 610, and writing: 680. My MCAT score was a 34: 10 verbal, 12 Physical Sciences, and 12 Biological Sciences. I believe that I have definitely refined and improved these skills since high school due to my fruitful experiences at Hopkins.

Biology

Beyond being a Biology major from Johns Hopkins University, I have extensive experience tutoring students in this course in the Bay Area. I have had 5 biology students who varied in their grades. All of them improved immensely. I am highly passionate about the subject and I have the study strategies to predict how concepts will be tested. I can guarantee that your student's performance will improve.

MCAT

I am a pre-med student who has recently spent more than a year studying for the MCAT. I took the exam last month and did very well. I am also a certified MCAT instructor for the Princeton Review.

Organic Chemistry

I took the course back at Hopkins and got A's in the course. I also studied for MCAT which covers organic chemistry material. I succeeded on the test and did well.

Physics

I currently tutor 3 other high school physics students and am very familiar with the material!

I've also taken a very rigorous math based and conceptual physics course at Johns Hopkins and got A+s.

I studied the material in great detail in preparation for the MCAT which is the standardized exam to enter medical school. The exam covers biology, organic chemistry, physics, and general chemistry.

Prealgebra

I excelled in pre-algebra back when I was in middle school. The material is rudimentary and very easy to explain and teach in comparison to my math experience. I have gotten A's in Pre-algebra, Algebra, Geometry, algebra II, Pre-calculus, Calculus, and Calculus II!

I currently tutor 5 algebra students who are all excelling in their coursework! I am confident that I could do the same with a pre-algebra student.
