My name is Jay...and I love to write with children. As a teacher who loves to write with children, I have a passion for inventive language and story-telling. I love working with children who are on the verge of learning how to write, or who need just that little push to get them moving in the right direction. Writing is a skill that everybody needs, and my approach is to engage your child's brain in the pursuit of fun and interesting stories.
Every child's brain is hardwired to love language. It's how we survive. Communication is a key in a world where it is hard to stand-out. I can't wait to partner with your family to get your child's language center activated and their love of writing a lifelong pursuit.
As a creative writer of novels and plays, I love to workshop my creations and pass along my beliefs that powerful writing comes from reading great literature. I often bring in samples of famous writers to help your child see the very best examples. When you stand on the shoulders of giants, you can see vast distances.
I am qualified to tutor in this specific category because I have a K-8 California Teaching Credential, as well as 2 years of elementary Montessori training. In addition, I am currently a teacher for students between first and eighth grade. I love interacting with students and have great success assisting them with their writing ability.
As a teacher with a K-8 teaching credential, I often teach phonics based lessons. Sounding out words is an active process, and often I will seat a child so they can look at my lips, tongue, and teeth to make the proper sounds. I love reading difficult words with children. It is one of my passions in life.
Teaching public speaking to students allows them to be confident in front of class as they present work. Standing tall, projecting, and making eye contact are three of the most important aspects of public speaking. I am qualified to teach public speaking due to my classroom experience assisting students in their preparation for speaking in front of groups as large as 300.
