I teach Biblical studies, CPR/AED/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens and other Health courses on a regular basis. I most enjoy English Language subjects, especially Research, Composition and Speech. I am currently an adult student, taking prerequisite courses in preparation for Graduate school. I have completed a Bachelor's degree in Human Services and anticipate completing a Master's degree in Public Education or Counseling by the end of 2014. I believe my current studies enable me to remain abreast of an evolving technologically-based culture.
As a parent and instructor, I have enjoyed discovering new concepts with my students. Though most of my experience is with K-12th grades, I have voluntarily taught classes for adult learners in non-profit settings. I believe it most effective to me to be available students to ask questions and to provide subject-related materials. I also have experience supervising students in the development of supportive learning materials. Tutor-student practice drills are also an effective way to assimilate new concepts.I currently hold an LVN license and teach at the San Diego/Imperial Valley Region Red Cross. The Health Care/Nursing industry requires lifetime learning skills and so, I will always strive to be informed. I have found education to be the most valuable resource. Chief to learning, is the ability to read. Whole societies advanced with the acquisition of communication skills. My goals in life include learning more about the global community and actively assisting others in the achievement of their own goals.
Language is the foundation of the American culture and English is the root of that foundation. I have studied the English language, its literature and structure most of my life; in both formal and informal settings. As a parent who provides home-school studies for my children and others, I developed daily course enhancements from California's K-12 English study guides for over nine years.
I became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1986 then decided to complete a Social Services Undergraduate degree in 2011. In 1993 I applied for and received a Private Affidavit from the State of California which enabled me to teach my own three children at home. Subsequently, from 1993 to 2006, I renewed the affidavit and taught other students in a private school cooperative. I am very familiar with the K-12 academic content standards required by California. I have served several years as a volunteer Children's program leader and hold 18 units in Child Development. My strengths are in English- Language and Literature; Visual Arts; Earth and Home Sciences.
I hold current licensure for Vocational Nursing in the State of California. My experience in the Health Care and Human Services industry spans 30 years. I enjoy being a medical Team member contributing with multi-tasking and problem solving skills. I took the NCLEX to renew my license in 2008 and am currently studying for a degree in Registered Nursing.
I am a Licensed Vocational Nurse with 30 years experience in a variety of clinical venues including Public Health, Behavioral Health, Skilled Nursing, Medication Administration, Special Needs Pediatric and Adult; Prison Health Care and Drug Dependency Clinic support. I also hold a current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/ AED, Blood Borne Pathogens and Diabetes instructor's certificate along with a Veni-Puncture certification on my LVN license. I currently serve in the field of Nurse Case Management and enjoy bringing my experience to meet the need of my patients. I actively pursue Public Speaking opportunities throughout the State of California and have done so for over 40 years. Most recently, I participated in Toast Masters International activities. I occasionally present formally on behalf of a Non-profit/Food resource program and have completed Upper Division course work in Communication. That course work included professional level subject matter exploring "the theory and practice of professional communication skills, including active listening, interviewing, nonverbal communication, and presentation skills" and the development of "interpersonal skills through application of communication techniques and strategies." Further, I successfully completed the Communication Theory in Human Services course with a 4.0 average and was able to meet the following objectives:

•Explore the historical development of helping theories in the human services field.

I enjoy writing and have delivered several speeches in recent years. I also enjoyed 11 years (1996 through 2007) as a Speech coach for homeschool students. The students, ages K through Young Adult, excelled in Speech and Debate competitions hosted by North San Diego County affiliates of the Association of Christian Schools International.
In the role of a Home school parent and as a pre-Graduate school student, I have developed a structured approach to coursework tasks. My approach includes: Time Scheduling, practiced Concentration, and Listening skills.
Time Scheduling: It is most important for every successful person to maintain strong Time Scheduling or management skills. Cramming is not an effective means by which to acquire knowledge. It is possible to study effectively and to have a social life. However, a student must make education their first priority, committing at least 4 hours daily to studying. Immediately following a typical home school day, my sons were required to complete extended study assignments that they helped to develop. Activities like building panorama boxes, journal writing and library research enabled them to take their education to a different level in a manner that they each enjoyed.
Concentration: Practiced concentration is key to one's ability to learn. High school students have expressed to me that they must have music while studying. Based on that theory, I worked with my sons and other high school students to prove that music, or any other unnecessary noise distracts the mind thereby limiting the ability to concentrate.
Listening Skills: Students who practice listening well quite often achieve excellent scores on tests and examinations. As part of my current studies, I find audio materials related to what I am study or I audio record assigned material to aid my ability to listen. This also supported my sons with their home school work. We also discovered limiting periods of video and television viewing aides in the ability to listen.
The written language is an art form. It is also a support for all other types of communication. I occasionally present formally on behalf of a non-profit/food resource program which requires research, accuracy, and succinct messaging. I have completed upper division coursework in English composition, business writing, and public communication.
I enjoy writing a wide range of documents. I especially enjoy speech writing. I also enjoy teaching adults as well as children.
