My love for tutoring stems from a volunteer opportunity in high school where I returned to my middle school and tutored as part of an after school program. I have over 6 years experience in tutoring that began in Los Angeles during my undergraduate studies. It was there that I began to truly understand the importance of helping children succeed and how work at home is necessary to complement the work done at school. In LA I tutored both for the No Child Left Behind federal program as well as privately. After moving back to the Bay Area, I continued working as a tutor as my passion for helping students succeed was even stronger.

I have experience in a wide range of age groups as well as subjects. I have tutored students ranging in age from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I have worked with children needing help with Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and AP exam prep. I have experience working with children who have ADHD and Dyslexia, helping them focus and organize as well as helping build confidence in themselves. I also have extensive experience helping children who are below grade level in various subjects advance and catch up with their peers.

I take pride in being on time to sessions and evaluating my student's needs after every session. I build my lesson plans based on where I feel the student needs the most help. I incorporate flash cards and games to help the student learn while having fun. I will assign homework as needed and adjust the direction of my instruction based on how they do on that homework. I am available to tutor in the student's home or at a library or local community center. I am also available to do group tutoring or tutor one-on-one.

I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how we can best help your child succeed!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have most of my experience tutoring elementary aged children in Reading, Writing, Math, and Science. I have helped children catch up to their grade level in reading. I started tutoring my most recent client when she was in 1st grade and continued on until she was in 5th grade. She was below grade level in Reading and Math and I was able to help her succeed and progress. I tailor my lessons to the student I am working with based on age, ability, and interest. I might incorporate games, flashcards, or props to ensure understanding on the part of the child. I will bring in workbooks and other materials to help get the child up to the level they need to be.
