At an early age, I developed natural instincts to want to teach others what I have learned. At the age of five, I began teaching my then 2 year old brother how to add numbers to the number one when he only just learned how to count. Since then, I have been actively teaching my younger siblings throughout their education concepts in math and science, teaching tricks in arithmetic to algebra, even to the calculus level. I have taught my sisters concepts in physics from building transistor radios to understanding electricity from batteries.
I studied at Reed College which, although unknown to many, is well-known to prestigious universities. It is universally hailed as one of the most challenging schools to study at. Students average a GPA of 3.0 and there is no grade inflation. At Reed College, I graduated with a B.A. in physics with a overall GPA of 3.76. My GPA in major was a 3.9 meaning that I received only As and A-s in my physics and math courses. I have studied at the graduate level at Stanford University in applied physics.
Previous work experience includes working for San Jose State University at Nasa Ames, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, University of Chicago, Reed College Nuclear Research Reactor, and Stanford University. I was awarded an honorable mention for an NSF Fellowship Award.
I have extensive tutoring experience in math and physics. In college I was a calculus and a physics tutor. I was also a physics outreach volunteer where I went to a nearby elementary school to work with other students to conduct physics experiments for the kids. I am currently working as an online tutor with Elevate Learning where I work with K-12 students who have difficulty with math.
Although I am guided by my own intuition what would be most effective in conveying material, I am willing to be flexible and adapt to the students' needs.
I love teaching and I love science. I love it when a student understands and grasps the material. Physics is a hard subject. My goals in tutoring are to help the student develop physical intuition of the concepts, and help them build strong problem-solving skills to feel confident in the material so that they can become masters of the subject.
Having a bachelor's degree in physics, I graduated with all As and A-'s in physics undergraduate courses. Courses include first year physics, second year physics, quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, optics, thermodynamics, solid state physics, and classical mechanics. I have tutored physics to college and high school level students.
