University of California Davis (Managerial Economics)
I currently attend UC Davis and am employed as a tutor at a top tutoring company that only hires individuals with exceptional tutoring skills, a top SAT score, and a high GPA. I have spent over 500 hours tutoring and received additional tutor training while working at a nonprofit for literacy for 4 years. In addition, I am a founding member of a nonprofit organization that provides tutoring to underprivileged children in various subjects.
I provide experienced, individualized tutoring to individuals that need help in language arts, essay writing, and grammatical skills as well as scoring high on their SAT Reading and Writing, AP English, and AP Literature tests that is time efficient. I can also work separately or together as a college advisor in order to perfect your child's undergraduate application to any of the universities or colleges, guide them in creating the most attractive application, and help them produce an unrivaled essay.
As a current University of California, Davis student, I personally took the AP English, AP Literature, and SAT exams recently two years ago, so I have an advantage in knowing exactly what the current tests ask of students as well as what strategies should be learned in order to achieve a score that is highly desirable and sought after by top universities. I know the right methods and tactics to get your child a better score, guaranteed. I also understand what most colleges are looking for in a student, and I can guide your child in writing brilliant essays to get noticed in the midst of tens of thousands of applicants. I have years of teaching experience from my job as an editor at my high school's award winning school newspaper in addition to working at a non profit in San Jose and learning exactly how to teach English effectively.
My education began in elementary school at the private school Challenger School, where I learned from the best grammar and literature teachers to build my foundation in English. Later on, I went on to attend Leland High School where I was a member of the number one speech and debate team in the nation and first medalist of various speech tournaments, President of the National Honor Society (organization that connects academically achieving students with volunteer opportunities in the community), volunteer of over 500+ hours from tutoring underprivileged children in low income areas, page editor for the award-winning school newspaper The Charger Account, and winner of numerous accolades for my involvement in the community including: Leland High School's Jefferson Award (given to one student once a year for exemplary work in the community) and Senior Recognition Award for Academic Work and Involvement in the Community. My SAT scores in critical reading and writing rank in the 96th percentile in the nation, and I graduated in 2013 in order to attend University of California, Davis as a managerial economics major. I work as a part time tutor to make extra money for college and help fund a non-profit for which I used my expertise in writing to create a business plan for, and I started the organization to help underprivileged children that go to schools with poor reading comprehension in order to provide them with free tutoring in writing and reading.
My style of teaching involves importance placed on the basics of grammar, writing, and effective test taking; I believe that once a student has this foundation down, any question on the SAT or AP exams is completely approachable and easy to solve. In juxtaposition with my own personal test-taking strategies, I also implement the same strategies taught at many of the top SAT prep centers to ensure that your child is getting thorough tutoring sessions. For students that need help in English or writing, I lay down the basics for your child, show ways of developing creativity, and teach them how to write effectively and well. I work with your child's talents and provide a very personalized experience that changes dynamically in order to achieve your child's highest potential and give the best tutoring possible.
Rather than having a strict teacher-student relationship, I like to develop a mentor-student relationship which is more personal and understanding of student's needs. Learning should be fun, and I always like to implement connections of my student's life with learning. I understand that motivating a student to work can be difficult, but I find that my age and background make students relate to me easier than they would with other tutors, and this connection makes all the difference in productivity and enjoyment of the subject.
I hope to meet you soon and am excited to work with you and your child in order to accomplish great things! Samantha has proven to be wonderful in many ways. First, my son feels much more confident heading into his SAT test (this weekend - fingers crossed!). This of course is the most important thing. But, she is also wonderful at being available - I can simply text her and we arrange things very quickly and easily. If there is a conflict, we manage it easily in this way as well. She shows up when she says - rain or shine!
What was truly amazing was her extra work for us. We needed more help on schools and Samantha provided us a report she personally made to help guide us in this important decision. Above and beyond!
I am disappointed that no response from Samantha for the past one month. She stopped responding to our text, phone, and emails for further classes. She had been tutoring my daughter till middle of July for a few weeks before she stopped responding.
My 6th grade daughter was a bit reluctant to have at-home tutors but she loved Samantha the first time they met. Samantha was very friendly and punctual. She helped my daughter with her writing skills. Not only that, I'd always get a detailed analysis of their lessons together after. I appreciate knowing exactly how my daughter was doing, what she learned, what she had trouble with and their overall progress. Tutors can't get any better than this.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've worked as a college counselor for multiple top test prep companies, and I've tutored many students successfully in college preparation. In addition, I currently attend UC Davis, and I went through the college admissions process myself, so I understand the ins and outs of applying to private universities, public universities, and private or public colleges. I wrote my own personal statement to get into multiple University of California schools and private universities, and I also worked with many different peer editors (teachers, counselors) and discussed what schools were looking for in my personal essay. I've researched and spoke to many individuals working at different college admissions at different schools (UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Stanford, Santa Clara University, ect.) and understand how to highlight students' goals and work with them to become the most desirable candidate possible. I also have extensive knowledge in guiding them through the challenging process and work as a mentor to help my students get into the college of their choice.
My experience with teaching comes from working at the nonprofit organization Grail Family Services in order to provide free tutoring to underprivileged children that normally could not afford any tutoring. I am currently working towards a bachelor in managerial economics at University of California, Davis and self taught myself to achieve passing grades in all six of my AP tests as well as a SAT score in the 95th percentile in the nation. I received a premium education from a top private school in San Jose, CA teaching me all the basics in most subjects, and I received a cumulative GPA of 3.7 in high school.
In my formative high school years, I was heavily involved in my school's award winning speech and debate team where I learned from national winning speech and debate speakers. I placed third in 2009 and second in 2010 at Santa Clara University's Speech and Debate tournament in Oratorical Interpretation. I have also gone to win second place at Los Gatos High School's Speech and Debate tournament in 2009. Besides Speech and Debate competitions, I participated in Miss Teen San Jose/Oakland and placed 5th runner up against 100 other girls, a award given not for just grace and elegance but for my interviewing skills and ability to speak and hold my confidence in front of hundreds of people.
I provide experienced, individualized, and direct tutoring and advising to individuals that need help in scoring high on their SAT, AP English, and AP Literature tests that is time-efficient. I can also work separately or together as a University of California Advisor in order to perfect your child's undergraduate application to any of the Universities of California, guide them in creating the most attractive application, and help them produce an unrivaled essay.

My score for the SAT is in the 95th percentile in the nation, and all of it is attributed to my own self-studying during three months prior to the exam. I passed all of my six AP classes in high school, and I also graduated with a 3.7 along with accolades for my extracurricular work. I currently attend a top 50 university, and I know exactly how to study efficiently and effectively in order to achieve high scores.
