Biology

I am a professional research biologist, with several peer-reviewed publications and a biotechnology patent to my name. I hold a Bachelors' degree in Biochemistry from U.C. Berkeley, and a PhD in Immunology from Stanford.

Computer Programming

I have ten years of practical, hands-on computer programming experience through my work as a scientist. Python is my primary programming language. I have also programmed in Pascal and C. I can teach you the basics of computer programming, up to more complex subjects (object-oriented programming, classes, inheritance, duck typing, name spaces, etc.). I like to teach programming by doing it. We will work at your computer, not from a book.

Genetics

My Bachelors' degree training and my Ph.D. training each included course work in Genetics.

I am the co-author of two peer-reviewed scientific articles which revealed novel information about the genetics of South American monkeys.

I have tutored a college student who advertised for help with Biology, but who was actually taking a Genetics course (Biology 22 at West Valley Community College). Please see the favorable feedback in my profile by Steven V.

Python

I have ten years of practical, hands-on computer programming experience through my work as a scientist. Python is my primary programming language. Please see the recent review from my student, Nelson S., who is a Silicon Valley electrical engineer.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
