Update, December 8:

My openings are currently limited. Beginning this week, I have an opening on Saturday afternoons at 2:00 PM. Over the next few weeks, I expect additional times to become available.

===========

I'm a graduate of Berkeley (B.A., biochemistry) and Stanford (Ph.D., immunology). So, which side should I sit on at the Big Game?

I have been a college-level teaching assistant. I have tutored many students over the years, including my son, who just started college. I can offer tutoring in many subjects, but my specialties are science, math, SAT review, and computer programming (I favor Python). I hope to teach you more than just what you need for tomorrow's test. I hope you will also learn how to keep learning on your own!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I am a professional research biologist, with several peer-reviewed publications and a biotechnology patent to my name. I hold a Bachelors' degree in Biochemistry from U.C. Berkeley, and a PhD in Immunology from Stanford.

Computer Programming

I have ten years of practical, hands-on computer programming experience through my work as a scientist. Python is my primary programming language. I have also programmed in Pascal and C. I can teach you the basics of computer programming, up to more complex subjects (object-oriented programming, classes, inheritance, duck typing, name spaces, etc.). I like to teach programming by doing it. We will work at your computer, not from a book.

Genetics

My Bachelors' degree training and my Ph.D. training each included course work in Genetics.

I am the co-author of two peer-reviewed scientific articles which revealed novel information about the genetics of South American monkeys.

I have tutored a college student who advertised for help with Biology, but who was actually taking a Genetics course (Biology 22 at West Valley Community College). Please see the favorable feedback in my profile by Steven V.

Python

I have ten years of practical, hands-on computer programming experience through my work as a scientist. Python is my primary programming language. Please see the recent review from my student, Nelson S., who is a Silicon Valley electrical engineer.

Christina, you have two variables, x and y, but only one equation.  You cannot solve for both x and y unless you have a second equation. You can simplify the equation that you have, a bit: x - 4y = 17 - 3x + 12y  (combine the constants) x = 17 - 3x + 16y  (add...

Best thing we ever did!! — John has been working with our 16 year old daughter with AP Chemistry for just the past few weeks and we (her parents) feel it is the best thing we could have done for her. The first few weeks of school we watched our daughter struggle in AP Chem and decided we needed to give her a little extra help - so we found John! John is extremely thorough and jumps right into their sessions. He knows his s ...
