I had been a research scholar, in the field of energy and environment where I used my insight of economics to study environmental problems. When I became a mother, I left the field of research and began volunteering in my children’s school. As a parent volunteer in my children’s school I have worked with students in all grades from Kindergarten to 8th grade in student led centers and have also worked with students with special needs.
Being part of a parent participation school, I also got the opportunity to be an active member of the Technology Committee, Grants Committee and the Field Trip Research Committee for the Discovery Charter School. Most recently I also got an opportunity to conduct the Junior Achievement program in K-5 classes and also tutor ELL students from second and third grade.
I discovered the passion of teaching while volunteering in my children’s classroom and by helping and aiding the students in small centers. This led me to pursue my Masters in Education from Jones International University. By pursuing a career in teaching I want to help my students achieve academic success and develop a lifelong passion for learning. As a teacher I hope to lay a strong academic foundation in my students’ life by capturing their imagination and interest.
I am goal oriented, dedicated, with a passion for learning, flexible aptitude to accommodate the diverse learning styles and needs of the students.
I am currently doing my Masters in Education for a teaching license from Jones International University. I have completed my papers and am preparing for my CSET and RICA and PRAXIS II subject test. After this I will be doing my student teaching.
I come from India where Hindi is the national language. I have learned Hindi in my school and college years as second language and I am well versed and confident to teach Hindi. I do intend to help my students in conversing in Hindi and also be able to read and write Hindi.
For the last 6 years, I have been volunteering at Discovery Charter School, and have been helping students in English Language Learning. I first help the students to read using the Phonics primer which lists the sounds in R+ English Language. Then I distinguish between the vowel sounds and the consonant sounds and also help the students to understand the difference between the short vowel and the long vowel sound. After that we move on to the two letter and three letter blends. The next step is the twin consonant endings, plurals, two consonants blends. In the next stage I move on to teach the digraphs and diphthongs to my students and introduce the high frequency words to my students.
In a few months time, my students are able to read short stories or simple articles. The experience that I have gained volunteering at Discovery Charter School, qualifies me to tutor phonics
