To best address the diversity of today’s internationally aware student body and to meet the demands of increasing globalization, my goal as an art historian is to make art history relevant to students, by using the art object as a lens to view the complex dynamics of the human condition. As a professor of South Asian art, I believe that we gain considerably as a society by investigating the intricacies of other cultural modalities, similar at times but yet different from our own. I believe that art is not simply an aesthetic object but a vehicle for understanding and navigating various flows of cultural discourse, an engagement vital to a comprehensive and foundational undergraduate education.

For the past nine years I have taught beyond the teaching assistant level as an instructor at large universities and small liberal arts programs, such as U.C. Irvine and Colorado College. This breadth of experience speaks to my ability to teach a range of age groups and academic abilities. I am interested in helping students learn the required subject matter, but also to I understand how to work effectively with students studying art history as well as other subjects such as English, writing, history and geography. I also integrate all of these various subjects into my art history courses and private tutoring lessons, so the student gains a broad understanding beyond just the course material. My goal is to help students learn how to balance the rigorous demands of a fast-pasted academic system and their own life needs. I build a collaborative learning environment that is tailored to the students immediate and long term needs, and create lessons and study materials that engage a student's individual creativity, imagination as well as address the required course materials.

Above all, I am a deeply committed teacher and strive to inspire my students to achieve a personal level of satisfaction, to take pride in the process of mastering any subject, even the struggle that comes with learning, and to grow intellectually and emotionally in the process.
