I have spent the last three years teaching and tutoring, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am passionate about math and science, and I am equally invested in helping my students gain a solid understanding of these subjects. I am great with students of all ages, including elementary through post-graduate students. After working with a variety of personalities, I have learned to cater my lessons to the individual student's needs. I understand that each student is unique and will be faced with different challenges, which can be overcome by developing a personalized studying skill-set. Throughout my career I have become proficient in higher level subjects, including mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, English, and literature, as well as standardized tests. I have experience as both an independent tutor and as an employee of larger companies. I have worked with students one-on-one as well as in the classroom. Through my work in research and leadership I have collaborated with many people and understand how to reach students to give them the support they need outside of their classrooms.

My work in the food service industry, as a tour guide, and as the vice president of my undergraduate student body has developed my communication skills. These skills have been beneficial to myself and my students in my positions as a private tutor and teacher. I have expressed my desire to continue to develop my love for communication and writing through obtaining degrees in both English and bioengineering. I hope to use this interest to better myself as a teacher because I understand the keystone to teaching is communication and the ability to clearly express one's ideas. I have practiced these proficiencies through research and leadership positions in both my undergraduate and graduate careers, where I learned to be adaptable and creative. My undergraduate school's honor code has also been a positive influence in my everyday life, and I hope to emphasize to students the satisfaction and drive one can obtain by working hard to master difficult material. I take joy in learning and would appreciate the opportunity to spread my excitement to students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

After receiving a 35 on the ACT myself, I tutored for the ACT and other standardized tests for the past three years. I love teaching high school math, science, reading, and writing, so tests like the ACT are a perfect match with my tutoring expertise.

ACT Reading

I received a 35 out of 36 on the ACT and have a BS in English. I have significant experience tutoring for standardized tests over the last few years and work well with high school students.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 for three years to students of all ages. I have prepared students for school exams and standardized tests, including high school exams, the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and GRE.

Algebra 2

I have graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with an MS in biomedical engineering and from the California Institute of Technology with a BS in bioengineering and English. I have 3 years of tutoring and teaching experience, including students of all ages and a variety of subjects. Specifically, I was the math and science teacher at an academy, an after school educational program, where the majority of my students were elementary and middle school level. Additionally, I have experience interacting with children from my time as a Child Life Volunteer at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. I volunteered here from February 2013 - July 2014.

Elementary Math

I have taught and tutored with a focus on math for the past three years. I particularly enjoyed my position as a math and science teacher at an academy in Los Angeles. In this role, I worked with elementary, middle school, and high school students.

Great Tutor — Pavalli is a great tutor. She always arrives on time or lets me know right away if she will be a few minutes late. She is very patient with my son and can easily explain writing formation concepts or the concepts to be taught in almost any subject. She also does not do all the work but clearly explains the concepts and then lets the student work at it and demonstrate their understanding of the mat ...
