I have been teaching Chemistry and Biology courses both in the classroom and one-on-one private settings for almost a decade. As a teaching assistant in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, I was responsible for teaching Structural Bioinformatics to over 100 students for three consecutive years. In addition to this, I have taught freshman Calculus, Molecular Biology, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry in a private tutoring environment. I graduated with a B.Sc. with First-Class Honors in Biochemistry from McGill University, one of Canada's premier research universities. I am currently writing my Ph.D. dissertation in Biochemistry (also at McGill). My research specialty in HIV drug design and the multidisciplinary research environment of my doctoral degree have given me a broad experience in the chemical and biological sciences.
My specialties include Organic Chemistry (Introductory Organic Chemistry I, II, III), Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Virology and Drug Design and Development. I first assess the current understanding of the material by the student, then attempt to fill any knowledge gaps that might exist. Learning Science is a step-wise process, and I believe that building from a solid foundation is a recipe for success. I assign regular homework and problem sets, taking into account the required assignments for a given class. After the material is assimilated, I set up practice exams with the student, so that they are well prepared for their evaluations in class.
I always listen to the needs and questions of my students; I constantly ask for feedback on my performance. Student satisfaction is very important to me.
I am quite flexible with meeting arrangements; I can offer both daytime and night classes, at the student's convenience. However, I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
Tutoring sessions can either occur in a public setting, such as a library, at the student's home or at my residence, whichever is most convenient for the student.
