Dear students and lovers of learning,
I hope that I can help you along your educational journey, something I know all too well. As a summa cum laude graduate with honors from Florida State University, I understand that educational endeavors require commitment and hard work. Having an accelerated education, I completed my B.F.A. two years in advance, and wrote and presented an honors in the major thesis.
My final semester of undergrad was spent in New York City, through a program facilitated by FSU for seniors. Among many facets of the program, the required internship was particularly valuable. I worked in close proximity with the editor and creator of 'The Dance Enthusiast,' an online journal, developing my skills in writing and editing/proofreading.
With regard for tutoring, I have worked with students on SAT prep, and particularly enjoy providing help on writing and editing. Exercises will be based off of the assignment(s) at hand, and in the past have included refining construction of paragraphs, clarifying thesis statements or main concepts, reading passages and working on comprehension, and vocabulary expansion. Aside from that I am also available to tutor math and French. Over the past few years, I have spent some time in Europe for both academic and career purposes, and have employed French in many interactions. I would also be happy to impart any study skill knowledge concerning organization of time, efficient studying, and so on.
It is my goal for each session to work with the student to see what they need, and in what areas they have questions or show signs of uncertainty. The idea is to help them succeed in the particular area(s) of study, and give them increased confidence with the material.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve increased success in school!
During my academic career, I learned several study/organizational techniques through classes and self-enrichment. Among these were speed reading techniques, note-taking methods (such as two-column notes, shorthand, summary, etc), and time allotment suggestions. In a series of undergrad classes collectively referred to as "Student Life Skills," a portion was dedicated to study skills and the various types of learning styles. This shed some light on identifying different types of learners (visual, aural, etc) and how to go about teaching them (crafting exercises with images for visual, reading back text for aural, and so on and so forth). I attended a writing seminar that included learning the Chunk paragraph method for essays, and study tips for the SAT. I also have tutored students in SAT prep, and part of this did include techniques for learning vocabulary.
