Actuarial Science

I graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara in 2012 and I earned over 3.5 GPA under Actuarial Science major. I have passed three preliminary SOA exams. The preliminary exams are the common foundation for becoming an actuary. No matter which actuarial practice area a person decides to enter, future actuarial education will depend on mastery of the preliminary exams. (FYI: I have passed exams P/1, FM/2, and MFE/3). I also a had working experiences which is related to Actuarial Science. I was an intern at Milliman Inc. Health Practice for over 10 months. Based on my experience, I am eager to begin work as a tutor to help student who are interested in being an actuary.

Microsoft Excel

As an actuary, the most work we do is on the spreadsheet by using Excel. Pivot table, vlookup and all other advance formulas. One of the important projects that I did was IBNR which is incurred but not report. The main goal of the project is to calculate a client's health reserves. The project was done through the excel and some VBA codes. I learned completion factor method to calculate future health reserves within a week and I successfully complete the project for Milliman's clients. I also wrote a report to summarize the project. The hard part of the project is some incurred data are not reasonable and it will effect the result. Therefore, me and my manager need to check the history data very carefully and then if everything were correct we have to make a very good assumption to get a reasonable reserve number. My manager told to my supervisor that I did a perfect job and everything look good.
