I have taught high school- and college-level classes in math and science for more than 15 years, tutoring and mentoring students from ages 12-60.

I earned a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Washington in 2007, and completed a fellowship in Biochemistry at UCSF in 2012. I am passionate about learning and love helping students grow their self-confidence through achievement. I tutor students in math (including Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, Precalculus) and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), as well as standardized test preparation.

I introduce students to different learning practices and coach them to find a combination of methods that work for them. These include effective reading and writing skills, in-class note taking and participation, test preparation, and organizational skills. I can help students learn course material provided by their primary educators or develop a complementary curriculum to broaden or deepen their understanding.

I believe that learning how to learn is the single most important skill a student can develop. As an educator, my role is to help students engage their curiosity, building enthusiasm for course material by linking it to their own life experiences. This process of building intrinsic motivation is tied to a mastery of subject material through the development of effective learning techniques.

Great Experience Jonathan is a really great tutor. I'm taking college level Bio Chem and he was really able to help me out. He explained things very well, and made it easier to grasp important concepts, as well as fine details. I would recommend him to anyone! I am feeling MUCH better about Bio Chem now, and I am looking forward to seeing how much my grade will improve after meeting with him. It's a huge relief to ...
