As an experienced teacher/tutor with a graduate degree, I have worked with students of all ages, ranging from preschool to adult learners. My areas of expertise include maximizing efficiency and results in reading, writing, and study habits, English as a foreign and second language, public speaking and presentation skills, business technology tools such as Microsoft Powerpoint/Keynote, Microsoft Excel/Numbers, Microsoft Word/Pages. I have also worked with parents of young children (with their child), teaching them to support their child's reading education in a way that fosters a love of books and confidence as they embark on their reading career.

My experience includes working with many different ages, learning styles and needs, from special education to adult professionals. My strengths include an ability to explain difficult concepts in multiple ways, patience with challenging topic areas and a commitment to adapting lesson styles and content to individual needs.

Whenever possible, especially with applications such as business software, I will provide students with documented materials/tutorials, either pre-prepared or customized to unique needs.

ESL/ESOL

I'm a certified EFL instructor, having completed and acquired certification in Barcelona, Spain in 2005. I have worked with many individuals and groups to improve their English skills, from elementary to more advanced levels. I always leave students with material covering the topics discussed and practice assignments as desired. Group rates are available and negotiable depending on need.

Microsoft Excel

As an MBA graduate student and an entrepreneur, I am very familiar with Excel, its various functions and how to design multiple types of tools. I have used it to create revenue models, financial projections, budgets and accounting tools. I am also competent at creating and customizing visuals from data.

I have tutored adult learners in this software and will provide you with prepared material complete with instructions, screen shots and examples of the things we will go over. This allows you to be fully present during the lesson and not have to spend valuable time writing down notes (unless you want to, of course!)

Microsoft PowerPoint

As a business professional and graduate student, presentations are a regular and frequent activity. I have designed and built many, many PowerPoint presentations and received excellent feedback.

Additionally, I have professionally tutored adult learners in the use of this technology, and have prepared material to leave with clients complete with instructions, screen shots and examples of the things we will go over. This allows you to be fully present during the lesson and not have to spend valuable time writing down notes (unless you want to, of course!)

Microsoft Word

Throughout my professional career and academic endeavors I use Microsoft Word on a regular basis to produce complex documents. I am comfortable with the various features and functions, configuration and customization options it provides and with integrating and managing external files and items.

Additionally, I have professionally tutored adult learners in the use of this technology, and have prepared material to leave with clients complete with instructions, screen shots and examples of the things we will go over. This allows you to be fully present during the lesson and not have to spend valuable time writing down notes (unless you want to, of course!)

Reading

With 10 years experience working in education and teaching, I have worked with hundreds of individuals on reading and comprehension skills, ranging from pre-school to adult learners. I am personally an avid and passionate reader and writer, always wanting to help instill similar values and skills. I have worked with students of all kinds, from individual tutoring, to special needs to classroom settings. Regardless of the student, I believe that we all need individually tailored methods and teaching to realize our full potential. I will work with any individual to make reading both educational and fun and have an extensive collection of material and quality suggestions to excite even the most reluctant student.

Study Skills

As a trained teacher for several years with the Institute of Reading Development, I have taught hundreds of young adult and adult learners skills such as reading comprehension, improving reading speed, strategies for successfully managing study habits, reading textbooks and maximizing the results of their reading and studying.

As a graduate student at Presidio Graduate School I also had to handle an intense course load and have tutored several of my classmates in these skills, with good results.

Additionally, I am qualified and experienced in working with multiple, diverse learning styles, having worked as a Special Education Coach at the Bay Area School of Enterprise, and later as leader and manager of after school programs.
