I am an experienced teacher with a background in Fine Arts and French. I am a painter and recently received my Master of Fine Arts degree at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston through the Tufts University/SMFA graduate program.
As a graduate student I served as a Teaching Assistant for a graduate level course focused on Contemporary Art and Art Theory and gave presentations both on Art Theory and classical painting and drawing techniques.
Prior to that, I worked teaching Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students in an after school program. In addition to working with younger students every day, I taught a weekly art course for students in grades K- 3. My teaching style is energetic and fun; I look for creative ways to teach challenging concepts. I have a great deal of experience giving private art lessons both throughout Wyzant and privately. I understand and take into account an individual student's needs, strengths and goals.
I have taught painting, drawing and crafting to students in a variety of settings, both in a classroom and individually. I concentrate on an art historically based curriculum and work with students to achieve their goals. My academic background is in drawing; however I have spent the last five years making a concentrated study of painting. I have excellent technical skills in a variety of media. I am able to tutor students in figure drawing, portraiture, landscape, still life and abstract work and color studies. I am familiar with both the Studio and Art History AP exams and can help students to build a portfolio and work on crafting an artist's statement.
I am fluent in French and I have tutored in French conversation, comprehension and writing. The lower school where I taught is a multi-lingual school where French is taught starting in Pre-K giving me experience with teaching French at all levels. I majored in French at Skidmore College and spent my Junior year living and studying in Paris, France. This experience allowed me to become fluent in French, speaking it with ease as well as writing and reading it expertly.

I have a lot of experience studying Art History. As a high school student I received a 5 on the Art History AP examination. My Master of Fine Arts degree required that I do extensive reading and study of Art Theory. I took courses on 20th century and contemporary art, covering theory relating to Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Modernism, Minimalism and Conceptual Art. I am able to apply the history and theory of these movements to Art History as well as the Art being made and shown in museums and galleries today.
Drawing is my artistic foundation; it was my favorite pursuit as a child and formed the bulk of my formal studies. At Skidmore College my Studio Art major was concentrated in drawing.
