"During my eight months' stay in San Francisco in the fall of 2010 and the spring of 2011, I met Will and had the opportunity to work with him to improve my English. I appreciated his teaching ability, his linguistic sensitivity, and his patience. His familiarity with German made it possible for him to anticipate the particular problems German speakers have with the English language. I had a lot of fun and I recommend him heartily as an English teacher!"

We had "family lessons" (parents with two teenagers) with Will and this was a great experience. Very respectful, very competent, very informative. Conversation that sticks to relevant topics and helpful suggestions. Would we recommend Will? YES, and without any restriction!
William evaluated my English proficiency during the first class and he assigned exercises accordingly. Every class goes very fast and I learn something new, I highly recommend William as a tutor.
William carefully assesses your level of English in the first lesson. He recommends areas for improvement but is always open to your own suggestions and questions. I find it very helpful to bring up any topics related to living in the United States - that way I can improve my language skills while also learning about American culture and society from William. His immersion method lets you learn from the things that actually concern your life. He does not use a textbook. I can highly recommend William as a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages (CTESOL) from Transworld Schools in San Francisco, CA. I feel confident teaching English.
I've been playing the oboe for many years.
I've in a variety of ensembles, such as the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the Berkeley Bach cantata Group, Prometheus Symphony, and this coming month the Berkeley Symphony. I've participated for a few years in the Humboldt Chamber Music Workshop, the CALCAP Chamber Music Workshop, and the Chamber Musicians of Northern California Chamber Workshops. I received instruction from teachers from San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. I feel confident teaching beginning to intermediate oboe and English horn students.
