Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have many years experience working as a reading tutor and volunteer with children from pre-school to high school levels. I teach English vocabulary, reading, and language arts to children who speak another language at home as well as general kindergarten readiness. I have developed many resources and learning materials that will keep a young child interested and excited about learning.

ESL/ESOL

Although I do not have formal training as a teacher, I have several years experience hosting teenagers and young adults for English immersion homestays. This involves evaluating each student's language ability and creating my own lesson plans based on the individual's interests and needs. I also have volunteer experience leading conversation practice groups for ESL students at a local ESL school.

NCLEX

I am a registered nurse and I taught NCLEX prep classes for a national test preparation company for several years. I am prepared to work with students on test-taking strategies specific to NCLEX type questions.

She also helped me identify my weaknesses so I knew what to focus on. Using her methods and study plan I was able to pass the NCLEX the first time! ...
