American History

I have been a teacher of history for over 25 years. My specialty is American History. I have developed a creative curriculum where students can interact with activities that bring history to life with creative methodologies.

Bible Studies

In addition to my secular teaching experience, I also taught Bible studies in both Hebrew School and Born-Again Churches back East. When teaching Bible I look for themes that apply to our everyday lives. Example: Lot's Wife turning into a Pilar of Salt. True Meaning -Obedience to G-D The Father.

ESL/ESOL

I have over 30 years' experience teaching ESL to all ages and levels of students in the United States and overseas along with writing, designing, planning, and implementing curricula to meet the individual needs of my students ranging from learning challenged to advanced levels. As an English Program Advisor in Southern Spain I trained native Spanish instructors how to incorporate English into the daily curriculum utilizing creative methodologies. For five years running I taught and developed a specialized course of study for exhange students from Kyoto, Japan who came to Encinitas, CA for an intensive three week learning and travel program.

French

I began studying French in high school and took an advanced placement course in my senior year. I have been a French teacher since my graduation from college and have studied in France, French Canada, and the Carribean. I have designed special courses of study for students taking French in the elementary schools, workshop programs, and adult continuing education courses in French conversation.

Spanish

As a Spanish teacher with over 25 years' experience I have taught all ages and levels of students ranging from elementary school through adult continuing education and community college. I was a founder of the FLES program in the elementary schools on Long Island where I developed a special course of study geared to the needs and interests of the elementary school student. I have taught middle school, high school, adult continuing education, and community college courses where I have utilized a creative approach to second language learning.

Study Skills

As a teacher with over 35 years of experience I had to teach my students how to study no matter what the subject matter was. I showed them how to organize their study area, how to look for the main theme when studying English and History, how to outline, how to make flash cards with vocabulary words for English, Spanish, and French, and how to pretend that they were a classroom teacher teaching an imaginary class the same subject that they were studying and trying to learn. I believe studying outload in a quiet environment is more beneficial for focusing on the material at hand and absorbing the material more quickly.

TOEFL

Since I have been teaching English As A Second Language for over 20 years, I have taught all ages and levels of students, from beginners, learning challenged, intermediate, advanced and TOEFL preparation. I have infinite patience and a good sense of humor which comes in handy when you are working one on one with a student.
