My qualifications for teaching reading, writing and speaking of intermediate Japanese are a result of attending Japanese school (Kyodo system) for 13 years every Saturday. I am also a level 2 JLPT (Japanese Language Placement Test), recently taken at San Diego State University. I have also taught in various roles: lecturer of my own classroom for the Rhetoric and Writing Department, a teacher's assistant for Rhetoric Department and a one-on-one tutor for the writing center at San Diego State University. I have also taught as a teacher's assistant at the high school level.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Japanese

I am a graduate of the Kyodo Unified School District in Los Angeles, California where I attended classes every Saturday for 13 years. In addition to learning how to read, write and speak in Japanese, my teachers assigned us activities in which we were required to translate Japanese words, phrases, and essays into English and vice versa.

I have placed level 2 for my Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) which is a test offered by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services as a reliable means of evaluating and certifying the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers, making JLPT the largest-scale Japanese-language test in the world.

My academic qualifications include earning a bachelor’s degree in Communications from California State University, Northridge and a graduate degree in English from San Diego State University. At San Diego State, I have taught beginning composition as a lecturer and I have worked as a teacher’s assistant and tutor for the Rhetoric Department.
