Greetings!

My name is Melanie and I just love English and helping students achieve their goals--the perfect combination!

I truly believe that, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Whether it is sharing best learning practices, giving out time management tips or teaching English to non-native speakers, I am passionate about the field of education and the art of being good to others.

ENGLISH TUTORING

Whether it be writing, reading, grammar work, or some conversational practice, I can help!

I am certified by both Oxford Seminars and the University of Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) programs as an ESL instructor. I also received my Bachelor's with Honors in English Literature and Education from the Macaulay Honors College at Baruch.

I have had over 5 years of experience tutoring and instructing ESL learners in both small groups and one-on-one meetings both locally and abroad.

STUDY SKILLS ASSISTANCE

For 3 years I worked at Columbia University in the field of Academic Support. If Time Management, Effective Textbook Reading, Active Note Taking, and/or Test Taking & Preparation at the high school or college level are skills that you are looking to build, then you have come to the right tutor!

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As an educator, I aim to create a supportive yet dynamic environment that addresses the learning styles of all students and encourages them to participate. Additionally, having been a student of foreign languages myself I know what it is like to be on the other side of the desk.

I will work with each of my students to first assess their specific needs, lay out a clear plan of action, and then work to deliver concrete results.

I look forward to working with you!
