Algebra 1

I got nearly perfect scores in math in middle school and high school. I have a B.S. degree in Physics and M.S. and Ph.D. in Biophysics. Recently, I have been tutoring algebra for my 6th-grade daughter and supervising Olympic Math at a Chinese after school. I love helping students improve and excel!

Chinese

Chinese is my native language, so I am proficient in reading, writing, and speaking. I speak standard or Mandarine Chinese. I am tutoring Chinese for four elementary students currently. We use the same textbooks used by most Chinese schools. The textbooks have comprehensive exercises after each lesson that enforce reading, writing, and speaking. I provide feedback to the students and practice dialogues with them. For advanced students, I ask them to translate each lesson from Chinese to English and then English to Chinese orally or in writing. This helps the students understand the meanings precisely and improve writing which is usually the most difficult part.

General Computer

I have been using computers since mid 80s. For my B.S. thesis, I wrote PASCAL programs to predict protein structures. For my M.S. and Ph.D. thesis, I used many scientific software on various platforms (VAX, UNIX, Mac, PC) to calculate protein structures based on X-ray diffraction data. I can read any software or hardware manuals to learn how to new computer tools. I would be happy to help others improve or excel in general computer usage.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
