I am trying to ultimately become a high school biology teacher, but currently I am looking to find work as a tutor. I’ve really enjoyed tutoring students in the past, and find education to be very fulfilling. I graduated in December from UCSC with a Biology (B.S.) degree, but since then I have been supporting myself by tutoring privately and at learning centers. Last year I worked at the Santa Cruz Learning Center, and the Los Gatos Tutoring Club as well as tutoring on my own. When I moved down to San Diego I found out about WyzAnt, and since then it has been a great way to find students.
I believe my past will help me be a better teacher, and each new session will be a valuable experience for me. And if I was given the opportunity, I would work with you to build the skills and habits it takes to succeed.
From my past experiences, I have learned the biggest thing that prevents learning is disliking a subject. I try to make my examples relate-able to my students' everyday life, showing them how they can use a concept in the real world. I also work on developing self-management skills, so that learning can be done efficiently and with confidence.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Andrew helped me review for my organic chemistry final last fall. He was able to help me identify what areas I was lacking in and went over that material. He also provided me with supplemental materials from his own textbook. Overall, a good, patient tutor.
If a tutor is brilliant but can't explain it in a way that is understood to the struggling student, then the session will be frustrating. Andrew is both brilliant and patient. He is determined to make sure he does not leave until you get it. He is kind and professional, just the type of tutor you are likely looking for! Helping my daughter get an A is, of course, nice, but Andrew has done more than this; he has inspired her to to actually like it!
Definitely a go-to-guy in the Physics tutoring world. Andrew is very descriptive, intelligent, and informative. He eases into topics and gives real world demonstrations. Andrew continues at your pace and leaves no questions unanswered. We covered multiple Physics problems at various challenge levels. He left me feeling confident in my work! Don't hesitate to get some help from him!
Andrew is a very diligent tutor and is also a great communicator. My daughter is grasping the concepts of AP chemistry much better from Andrew than from her teacher at school. She is actually enjoying her study time with him and therefore enjoying chemistry rather than dreading what is definitely a difficult subject for her.
Andrew is a great tutor! I've had multiple tutoring sessions with him and he has been great. He has really helped me understand the concepts and I've learned some good strategies that I will definitely keep using for a long time. I highly recommend Andrew he is very patient and he explains things super thoroughly. Overall great guy, great tutor, give him a call if you need help!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra can seem intimidating at first, but with the right tools students can learn to love math. I try breaking down the concepts, and connecting them to the real world. Ive worked at a learning center for the last year, and most of my math students just needed a personalized approach to algebra.
I majored in Biology at UCSC, graduating with a 3.61 GPA this last December. I've tutored for over 2 years now for both high school and college biology courses. For Biology I usually work on memorizing strategies and rewording concepts to make them more accessible.
I majored in Biology at UCSC, graduating with a 3.61 GPA this last December. I've tutored for over 2 years now for both high school and college chemistry courses. When I took AP chemistry in high school I got a 5, and I got A's in all of my college chemistry and organic chemistry courses. Equations can seem intimidating at first, but I've found by showing students some organization methods, and linking them to chemistry's fundamentals, students quickly improve.
I got an A in both 108a and 108b, my organic chemistry courses at UCSC, as well as in the labs. I've tutored a couple of UCSC students in those courses as well as a SDSU student in their organic chemistry class. Although it is a very abstract class, its applications are essential to understanding the form and function of the fundamental molecules of life, ie proteins, dna, rna, carbohydrates.
Most students who struggle in this class merely need to be more efficient with the time they spend memorizing the reactions, I show them how I systematically memorize lists as well as the logic behind synthesis( multiple step) reactions.
As someone who has a family full of physicists, I had plenty of people to explain the basics. They showed me how to make physics a game, as well as how to avoid common misunderstandings. In college I not only enjoyed these courses, I found myself helping many of my classmates! When I worked at a tutoring center, I found that most of my students were for physics, and thus developed many techniques to explain and show how physics works in the real world.
