ADD/ADHD

I have a clear credential in Special Education Mild-Moderate disabilities and a Masters in Special Education. I have had more than 10 students with ADD or ADHD diagnoses in the past three years. I believe in providing positive reinforcement and modifications as needed. All students can learn!

Aspergers

I am currently a Specialized Academic Instructor. I have taught or tutored four students with Aspergers syndrome in the past three years. I have a credential in Special Education Mild-Moderate disabilities and have also completed a Masters in Special Education.

Autism

I have an added authorization on my Mild-Moderate Disabilities Credential to teach students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Over the past three years I have taught or tutored eight students on the Autism Spectrum of Disorders. I recently obtained a Masters in Special Education. It is important to find what interests each student and use those interests to make learning more motivating for the individual.

CBEST

I passed the CBEST on my first attempt. I have previously tutored two college students to successfully pass the CBEST exam (one of whom had previously failed the exam). I am a credentialed teacher in California.

Dyslexia

I have a Masters in Special Education and a credential in Mild-Moderate disabilities. This includes authorization to teach students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia. I have taught or tutored at least 25 students with specific learning disabilities (such as dyslexia) over the past three years. I find direct, explicit instruction key when teaching reading to individuals with dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a fully qualified and credentialed Specialized Academic Instructor at an elementary school. I hold active credentials in Multiple Subjects (General Education K-8) and Mild-Moderate Disabilities (Special Education). I hold a Masters in Special Education. I regularly teach elementary subjects in 1:1, small group, and whole group settings.

Phonics

I am a Specialized Academic Instructor at an elementary school with active credentials in Multiple Subjects (General Education K-8) and Mild-Moderate Disabilities (Special Education). I hold a Masters in Special Education. I regularly teach students phonics in whole group, small group, and 1:1 settings, with direct, explicit instruction and practice. I have passed the RICA exam and have used multiple phonics programs with students, such as Reading Mastery.

Religion

I have taken college courses in Christian Tradition / Church History, Old Testament, and New Testament. I have tutored two students unpaid in Old and New Testaments.

Social Studies

I am a Specialized Academic Instructor at an elementary school. I hold active credentials in Multiple Subjects (General Education K-8) and Mild-Moderate Disabilities (Special Education). I hold a Masters in Special Education. I have previously tutored students in American, European, and World History and have experience teaching social studies at the K-5 level.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
