I recently retired after a 40-year writing career, having written everything from television commercials for the Super Bowl to fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. In addition, I taught in the Marquette University School of Journalism and produced two series of radio shows on the subject of word origins. I'm eager to help anyone who would like to improve his or her fluency in the English language, knowledge of grammar, writing ability, or ease on a podium. I'm also prepared to teach English to French speakers.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I have given speeches around the country for the American Association of Advertising Agencies, taught in the Marquette University School of Speech, and participated in Toastmasters meetings.

Study Skills

I have taught students at the elementary-, middle-, and high-school levels, as well as the college level. It was necessary at times to educate the less experienced students in study procedures and self-motivation. I have been pleased to see most of them replace negative study habits and attitudes with enthusiasm and improved grades.
