You will benefit from my more than 20 years of ESL teaching experience. I have taught 9 years in the US and 11 years overseas. No matter what your age is I have taught them all. I'm especially good at teaching pre-college and college students since I have spent many years teaching that age group in the US, China and the middle east. If you're a working adult who wants to improve your English, I can draw from the years of experience teaching in the Continue Education system in the U.S. I have also taught ESL to professionals in China. I don't want to leave out the younger ones as well, because I have taught ESL to the accelerated young achievers in China. It was a real delight for me to teach them!

Using textbooks or printed materials are very helpful. They will help to guide you systematically in your language learning process, but they are not the only way to help you learn. Through my years of teaching I have found that using projects as bases for accelerated language learning very effective. When something you do is more meaningful, you will learn the language skill quicker. I will develop projects especially suited for you so you can have a meaningful way of learning English.

I love to tutor hard working students, especially if you want to improve your academic skills so that you can get higher scores in TOEFL, IELTS, etc. I can equip you with better techniques for that. I also love to work with those who may have some challenges. I have been called by my students for being a 'patient teacher' of which I'm blinded to.

I love to meet people from all around the world and from all walks of life. I love to teach international students. Having worked and lived overseas for many years I understand the struggles of learning a new language and adapting to a new culture. I will use many interesting ways to help you learn, remember and use the English language. After getting to know you, I will draw from my extensive experience and adjust the content, skill level and style to suit your goals.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

My early years of education up to grade 6 is in the Mandarin Chinese medium. I have also studied Chinese at the University of Washington for an equivalent of two semesters. And then I have studied another year of Chinese in Guangzhou, PRC. I have passed the HSK level 4 proficiency test in China. I am a near native speaker of Mandarin or Putonghua. I would be able to teach Chinese in the elementary to intermediate levels.

ESL/ESOL

I have received my Masters in TESOL in 1990 and I have been teaching as an ESL teacher at all ages and levels for over twenty years. Most recently I have been teaching ESL to precollege entrance students for the Middle East and China. I have also taught General intensive English to international students to qualify them for entrance to local colleges and universities.

Besides teaching college students in China, I was also teaching career adult students in trade English and children of elementary and middle schools in beginning and intermediate English.
